In truth, Jiang Muyun’s intention had been to act as Zhang Shen’s right-hand aide. However, it seemed Zhang Shen had misunderstood her.

“Little Yun is right. I honestly hadn’t expected your current physical condition. Now, you must focus entirely on your recovery—you can’t go anywhere.”

“Hmph! Who asked for your concern?”

Clearly, Jiang Muyun didn’t feel the least bit touched by Zhang Shen’s care.

“From now on, you’ll have to do as I say. My time and energy are limited, so starting tomorrow, I’ll find you a personal assistant to stay with you around the clock.”

“I don’t want an assistant. I just want to be your helper.”

Jiang Muyun resisted, but Zhang Shen was genuinely thinking of her health. If there was anyone to blame, it was himself, for not having paid enough attention to her before, for not noticing the strange condition in her body. With this thought, Zhang Shen became even more determined to find her a personal assistant.

“Little Yun, listen to me. I’m really worried about your health. I don’t want to wake up one day and discover, just like with my teacher, that you’re suddenly gone. Honestly, I’m terrified of that day.”

Feeling the sincerity in Zhang Shen’s words, Jiang Muyun realized that, though he was blunt, he wasn’t heartless. His insistence on hiring a personal assistant was clearly out of worry for her. Since that was the case, she might as well agree. If she didn’t like the assistant later, she could always find some excuse to dismiss her.

“Alright, I’ll agree to it.”

Hearing her consent, Zhang Shen finally breathed a sigh of relief.

“There’s no time like the present—let’s do it now!”

With that, he scooped up Jiang Muyun from the floor and asked if she had any preferences for the assistant.

“Whatever you like is fine,” Jiang Muyun replied casually. After all, she could easily get rid of the assistant if necessary.

“I prefer a woman!” Zhang Shen made a playful face at her.

“You—” Jiang Muyun’s irritation was obvious, and Zhang Shen hurried to clarify, waving his hands.

“No, you misunderstand! I was only thinking of what you would want. If we’re hiring a personal bodyguard, how could I pick a man?”

“If you dare choose a man, I’ll skin you alive.”

“My goodness, who would’ve thought that little Yun could be so feisty?” Zhang Shen muttered under his breath.

“What did you say?” Jiang Muyun caught him mumbling and demanded an answer.

“Nothing, nothing at all!”

Without daring to delay further, Zhang Shen quickly posted an ad on the Yue Lake City job site for a “24-hour live-in female assistant.” Whether by intent or nerves, he left his own mobile number as the contact.

After posting the ad, he persuaded Jiang Muyun that her top priority was rest, and to wait quietly for the arrival of her new assistant. After she murmured her assent, Zhang Shen finally left the nursing home.

The next day, expecting his phone to ring off the hook, Zhang Shen was instead met with silence. Not only did he not get a single call, even the telecom company’s customer service didn’t bother to “check in” on him.

Puzzled, he wondered if he’d made a mistake or perhaps hadn’t described the position clearly. Yet Jiang Muyun’s condition could worsen at any moment.

Resigned, Zhang Shen decided to mimic the dramas he’d seen on TV: he wrote, in bold strokes on a sheet of paper, “Seeking 24-hour live-in female assistant, salary negotiable.” Then he hurried downstairs and, with no hint of embarrassment, held the sign up right at his doorstep. Instantly, a curious crowd gathered, growing larger by the minute. Only now did Zhang Shen realize that although he was attracting attention, he was also putting himself on a scorching grill.

“Truly, the world’s morals have gone to the dogs! The nerve of people nowadays, hawking even things like this openly on the street,” grumbled an elderly man with snowy hair, shaking his head and chastising Zhang Shen.

Zhang Shen realized the situation was getting out of hand, but having come this far, he couldn’t back down—otherwise, he’d really look like a scoundrel.

“Has this kid lost his mind, asking for someone to be with him twenty-four hours a day? This isn’t hiring an assistant—it’s looking for a wife!” one bystander jeered.

“Nonsense, what wife stays by your side twenty-four hours a day? And look at him—he’s so scrawny, could he even handle it?” another chimed in, the two trading barbs at Zhang Shen’s expense.

But Zhang Shen paid no heed to their gossip.

Time ticked by, and rather than dispersing, the crowd only swelled. Yet not a single person stepped forward to apply.

Just as Zhang Shen was beginning to feel dejected, a Buick pulled up and a tall, elegant woman stepped out—it was Mu Qiao.

Mu Qiao had been seeking a chance to get close to Zhang Shen and Miss Jiang. Now, with this opportunity dropped into her lap, she couldn’t let it slip—not when fulfilling Jiang Zhengxing’s orders was at stake.

She walked up to Zhang Shen and asked, “Do you think I’m suitable?”

The crowd had been eager to see who might be foolish enough to apply for a 24-hour live-in assistant. At this point, Zhang Shen had all but given up.

But in the instant Mu Qiao appeared, hope sprang to life in his heart.

Looking her over, Zhang Shen saw that her fair skin was flawless, almost porcelain, and her alluring figure and shapely curves were enough to make any man’s heart race. Her legs, wrapped in sheer stockings, were especially captivating.

Faced with her appearance, Zhang Shen couldn’t help but be a bit suspicious.

“Miss, are you really here to apply for the assistant position?”

“No.”

The onlookers scoffed—after all, what beautiful woman would apply for a job like this unless she was out of her mind? Zhang Shen, irritated by her answer, pressed on.

“Then why are you here?”

“Of course, I’m here to apply.”

Zhang Shen was baffled by her reply.

“But you just said—”

“Yes, you asked if I was here to apply for an assistant. I’m here to apply for a 24-hour live-in assistant. Are those the same?”

Zhang Shen hadn’t expected her to play word games. Still, since someone was finally willing to apply, he had to show his sincerity.
