Chapter 146: Emerald Court Number 8
Perhaps Zhang Shen’s emotions were a bit too intense, causing his voice to come out somewhat louder than usual.
Chen Rong and Tao Yang, standing nearby, quickly asked, “Little brother, what’s going on with you?”
From their perspective, this young man had appeared quite refined and composed before answering the call. Yet, after just one conversation, he seemed like a completely different person.
Zhang Shen didn’t respond to their questions but continued discussing with Jiang Muyun about how to get to the appointment.
“How are we going to get there?”
“Are you crazy? Of course, we’ll drive. You’re not planning to walk, are you?”
Even through the phone, Jiang Muyun could sense Zhang Shen’s innocent and somewhat clueless demeanor, and she was momentarily baffled that he could say something like that.
Listening to Jiang Muyun’s tone, Zhang Shen seemed to realize something. It appeared he hadn’t quite stepped out of the grand surroundings of Tao Yang’s estate yet.
“Then come pick me up! No time to waste, let’s go now.”
“All right, wait for me at the school gate. I’ll be there shortly—”
Before Jiang Muyun could finish, Zhang Shen interrupted.
“Xiaoyun, I’m not at school right now.”
Upon hearing this, Jiang Muyun immediately began scolding him.
“Zhang Shen, running off during class time? I think you’re out of your mind. I might just have to report you to the principal!”
Though Zhang Shen knew Jiang Muyun was likely teasing him, her temperament was not something one could easily predict. However, this time leaving school was perfectly legitimate, as the principal himself had brought him out.
“Xiaoyun, you might find it hard to believe, but this time it was the principal who let me out. If you don’t believe me, I can put him on the phone right now.”
Jiang Muyun was somewhat skeptical on the other end. She knew Zhang Shen was highly skilled in medicine, but if it came to winning others’ trust through lies, she was confident he wouldn’t stoop to that.
“Enough with the nonsense. Where are you now?”
Facing an unfamiliar place, Zhang Shen only knew it was Tao Yang’s estate but wasn’t clear about the exact location. Thinking this, he quickly turned to Tao Yang.
“Dean, what’s the name of this place here?”
“Jade Court, No. 8.”
After hearing Tao Yang’s answer, Zhang Shen promptly relayed it to Jiang Muyun.
“Wait for us; Sister Mu and I will be there soon.”
With that, Jiang Muyun hung up. At this moment, Zhang Shen seemed to realize that although he was a guest, he had been somewhat impolite earlier.
“Principal, Dean, there was a reason for what just happened. Please don’t take offense.”
Having weathered many storms, Chen Rong and Tao Yang were hardly concerned by such a minor incident. However, from their perspective, Zhang Shen’s medical skills were impressive, yet his expression during the call had seemed noticeably unnatural.
At this, Principal Chen Rong immediately asked, “What’s going on? Did something happen?”
Zhang Shen had intended to tell the principal about Wang Ying’s father being poisoned, but on second thought, this involved the young lady’s privacy. Besides, he had already promised Wang Ying to handle the matter himself.
“It’s nothing serious, just some trivial matters in daily life.”
As he spoke, a maid dressed in a housekeeper’s uniform approached and handed a phone to Tao Yang.
“Dean, the security guard at the gate says someone is looking for you!”
After speaking, the maid turned and left.
On the other end, Tao Yang answered the call, saying, “Hello!”
Though unsure what the guard was saying, Tao Yang understood perfectly.
“Then let them in.”
After hanging up, Tao Yang turned to Zhang Shen.
“Seems your friends have found their way here. Why not invite them in?”
Tao Yang’s hospitality was sincere, but Zhang Shen had no leisure for such matters. In his eyes, Mu Qiao was mature and steady, but Jiang Muyun was a bit of a ‘little wild card’—one never knew when she might start teasing or arguing with him.
More importantly, when Chen Rong had asked about his affairs earlier, Zhang Shen hadn’t disclosed Wang Ying’s situation, but if Jiang Muyun accidentally let something slip, it might be difficult to cover up.
“Dean, well…”
Just as Zhang Shen was pondering how to politely decline Tao Yang’s offer, Jiang Muyun’s delicate voice sounded from the entrance.
“Zhang Shen, I’m here!”
Seeing her small head peeking out from the car, Zhang Shen quickly said goodbye to Chen Rong, Tao Yang, and Tian Rong, then hurried to the door.
No sooner had Zhang Shen gotten into the car than he was bombarded with questions from Jiang Muyun coming from all directions.
“Are you feeling powerful now that you’re allowed into Jade Court? Do you know whose territory this is? If it weren’t for the security guard confirming by phone just now, it would have been almost impossible for us to see you!”
Hearing Jiang Muyun’s words, Zhang Shen knew these were playful remarks tinted with jealousy. He paid them no mind and instead asked directly, “You weren’t very clear earlier. Now tell me, what exactly did Huang Wanting say?”
Seeing Zhang Shen’s anxious expression, Jiang Muyun’s mind flashed with a thought.
“Hey genius doctor, who do you really care about—Huang Wanting or Sister Ying? I think you should listen to your teacher and decide who truly moves your heart.”
Faced with Jiang Muyun’s question, Zhang Shen could only smile wryly.
“Come on, it’s not the time for jokes.”
Zhang Shen looked visibly impatient. Mu Qiao, noticing this, tugged Jiang Muyun’s sleeve and said, “Miss, this is urgent. Let’s stop joking and head to the meeting place to wait for Huang Wanting.”
Mu Qiao’s words immediately quelled Jiang Muyun’s playful mood.
“Alright, no more teasing. Huang Wanting only said to go to that place we visited last time; she didn’t mention anything else.”
Listening to Jiang Muyun, Zhang Shen felt the matter growing stranger. Though he’d only interacted with Huang Wanting a few times, he knew her to be straightforward and candid. The fact that she hadn’t been explicit over the phone suggested something serious was indeed going on.
With that thought, Zhang Shen urged Mu Qiao to drive.
Mu Qiao’s driving skills were decent, but it still took over an hour to reach that place.
