“Yes, President Lu. Otherwise, how could I have produced your Fire Spirit Pill?”

On the other end of the line, Lu Fuguo still wanted to press Zhang Shen for more details. But remembering that Zhang Shen was still treating the patient, he merely exchanged a few perfunctory words with him before saying, “Miracle Doctor, how about this? Come to my house tonight. There’s something I’d like to discuss with you.”

Zhang Shen had no idea what Lu Fuguo wanted to see him about, but since the man had personally invited him, it would hardly be appropriate to refuse.

“All right, President Lu.”

After replying to Lu Fuguo, Zhang Shen handed the phone back to Lu Ming. He then listened as Lu Ming repeatedly nodded and agreed to something on the call.

Once Lu Ming ended the conversation, Zhang Shen said to everyone, “The patient’s condition is stable now. We have to thank Teacher Lu’s family for the medicinal pill. Without it, even the greatest physician might not have been able to save him.”

For Zhang Shen, those words were merely laying the groundwork for what he intended to do next.

Lu Ming was naturally delighted to hear this, and even Hao Lei, standing beside him, was beaming with laughter. Seeing her expression, Zhang Shen seized the opportunity and turned to her.

“Teacher Hao, I shouldn’t have lied to you at noon, but I really did come here to save someone. As you can see, Wang Ying’s father has already escaped the jaws of death. Do you think perhaps you could…”

Seeing Zhang Shen fidgeting so awkwardly, Hao Lei naturally knew exactly what he was plotting, especially since he had been praising Lu Ming and his family so enthusiastically in front of everyone.

In Hao Lei’s eyes, Zhang Shen had gone to considerable lengths to bring her and Lu Ming together. Now that he was pleading with her like this, he was probably still thinking about those test papers.

Hao Lei glanced at Lu Ming before saying to Zhang Shen, “Although your performance on this test wasn’t particularly impressive, and if the principal hadn’t discovered what happened today in time, you would nearly have been absent from class without cause. For a matter like this, you should ask the principal.”

With only a few words, Hao Lei had passed the problem on to Chen Rong. After all, Chen Rong was not only the oldest person in the dumpling shop at the moment, but also her direct superior. More importantly, the pressure being placed on Zhang Shen was entirely the principal’s decision. As a mere homeroom teacher, she could not make such a decision on her own.

Zhang Shen could only curse inwardly before walking over to Chen Rong.

“Principal, I’m truly sorry for bumping into you today. Please be magnanimous and forgive me this once!”

Zhang Shen’s apology was fairly sincere, but Chen Rong did not seem particularly moved. He merely said淡然ly, “Don’t think that dragging a patient back from the gates of death is some extraordinary achievement. Not a single book you ought to read may be neglected, and not a single test paper you ought to complete may be missed.”

Zhang Shen had never imagined that Chen Rong would suddenly become so heartless. Seeing that even the principal had spoken, Hao Lei naturally did not dare say anything more and could only mourn for Zhang Shen inwardly.

At that moment, Zhang Shen had no way to ease his current predicament. Besides, Wang Ying’s father was already out of danger, so he said indifferently, “Since the patient is fine now, let’s head back. We shouldn’t crowd around here and disturb him while he rests.”

Seeing that there was no hope of obtaining help, Zhang Shen decided that rather than waste time with these people, he might as well go back and finish the test papers as soon as possible. Otherwise, Chen Rong might find some other way to make trouble for him.

“Wang Ying, stay home and take care of your father. If you need anything, tell Teacher Hao directly. The school will do everything it can to help.”

After saying this, Chen Rong also reminded Hao Lei, “Be sure to pay attention to Wang Ying’s mental and physical well-being, as well as her academic performance. Nothing must go wrong with her graduation examinations.”

Hao Lei nodded repeatedly as she listened to Chen Rong’s instructions. Zhang Shen, however, was utterly unimpressed. In his heart, he thought the old man was being completely ridiculous.

The group rode back to school in Lu Ming’s car.

“You three, go back to class with Teacher Hao.”

As soon as they arrived at school, Chen Rong turned to Zhang Shen and the others and said this. He then got out of the car and headed straight for the principal’s office.

“Ugh!”

Watching Chen Rong’s retreating back, Zhang Shen could not help letting out a long sigh.

Seeing how dejected Zhang Shen looked, Meng Ran draped an arm over his shoulder and comforted him kindly. “Brother Zhang, what’s the big deal? It’s only a few test papers. For a genius like you, isn’t that something you can finish in minutes?”

Looking at Meng Ran’s mischievous grin, Zhang Shen could not resist the urge to kick him.

“What do you mean, ‘a few’? It’s clearly dozens! Isn’t the old man just trying to toy with me?”

Zhang Shen was desperately trying to recall whether he had offended that rotten old man, Chen Rong, over some particular matter. Just then, a message arrived on his phone.

“Wang Ying?”

Zhang Shen glanced at the name displayed on his screen. He simply wondered why the girl was not staying home to look after her father and what business she had messaging him at a time like this.

Zhang Shen pushed Meng Ran’s arm away and immediately scanned the contents of the message.

“Give the test papers to Ye Qiong. I’ll do them for you tonight when I get back, but I have one condition. We’ll discuss it when we meet tonight.”

Zhang Shen quickly finished reading the message. At once, a smile blossomed across his face at the unexpected arrival of such a capable helper. As for her condition, he rapidly considered it in his mind.

After all, aside from helping her find the legendary Dragon Four, what could possibly be more important?

Still, the matter concerning Dragon Four required careful planning. For now, he needed to hand the test papers over to Ye Qiong as quickly as possible. He had plans tonight, after all!

“Hey, Brother Zhang, what are you thinking about?”

Meng Ran suddenly interrupted Zhang Shen’s train of thought. But when Zhang Shen remembered that someone would finally be helping him complete his enormous stack of test papers, he felt immensely excited.

“Nothing. Hurry up and get to class!”

Because they had been helping Wang Ying’s father with his illness, by the time they returned, only the last ten-odd minutes of the final class remained. Fortunately, Hao Lei explained the situation on their behalf, so they naturally spent those final few minutes sitting in class.

Soon, the bell rang again.

Zhang Shen had intended to hurry back to the dormitory to retrieve the test papers, but just as he turned around, a familiar voice called him back.

“Zhang Shen, stop right there! Tell me, where did you all go this afternoon?”

Zhang Shen turned around and saw that it was Ye Qiong who had spoken.

“Miss Ye, before I answer your question, I’d first like to correct the mistake in what you just said.”

Ye Qiong had intended to coax the information she wanted out of Zhang Shen, but she had not expected him to turn the question back on her instead.
