Chapter 91: The Supreme Eye of Truth
“But what?” Geng Wei asked anxiously.
“Heh-heh-heh!” Zhao Feng gave a cold laugh. “Only this: you are not to tell anyone about this, not even your wife.”
Geng Wei nodded hurriedly. “I understand, I understand!”
“Good.” With his hands clasped behind his back, Zhao Feng turned and left. “I’m heading out first. Call me if anything comes up.”
“Right! Right!”
Geng Wei watched him out the door. After Zhao Feng left, he dropped heavily onto the sofa.
All at once, the strength seemed to drain from him, as though he had aged by decades.
He sat alone in the living room in a daze, not noticing the passage of time at all.
Minute by minute, time slipped away, and before long night had fallen.
In the pitch-dark room, only the neon glow from outside flickered through the windows, and Geng Wei still had not turned on the lights.
Click.
The door opened, and a lovely woman hummed a tune as she stepped inside.
Snap.
She turned on the lamp.
“Ah!”
Startled, she cried out and patted her ample chest. “You scared me. Why aren’t you turning on the lights? What are you doing sitting here by yourself? Performing some strange ritual?”
The woman was Geng Wei’s wife, Wang Li.
Geng Wei slowly lifted his head. His expression was unreadable. “You’re back?”
Wang Li rolled her eyes. “Of course I’m back. What of it?”
Geng Wei shook his head. “Nothing. Go wash up and rest.”
Wang Li pursed her lips. “Are you even up to it? Don’t go failing halfway again.”
Geng Wei gave a cold smile. “I’m not in the mood today.”
Wang Li frowned. “What’s wrong? Who upset you?”
Stretching, she sat down on the sofa. “Today I heard from Xiao He that someone came to make trouble at your construction site. How was it? Taken care of?”
Geng Wei let out a frosty laugh. “Nothing much. Just some little punk.”
“Oh.”
Wang Li answered lightly, clearly indifferent. It was obvious she had only asked casually.
She kicked off her high heels, let down her hair, and hummed as she walked toward the bathroom.
After a couple of steps, she suddenly turned back.
Then, with surprise, she asked, “Normally you’d ask where our son is. Why didn’t you ask today?”
Geng Wei glanced at her with that same unreadable look. “Where is our son?”
“Heh-heh-heh,” Wang Li laughed. “He went to his uncle’s place!”
“Oh.”
Geng Wei gave a flat response and got up, heading toward the bedroom.
Wang Li frowned and muttered, “What’s wrong with this good-for-nothing today?”
“Pah!”
She spat lightly, turned, and went into the bathroom.
After a quick shower, Wang Li hummed merrily and headed for the bedroom.
By the time she entered, Geng Wei was already sprawled on the bed, snoring soundly.
Yet she felt a chill in the air. She glanced around but found nothing unusual.
She kicked off her slippers and flung herself onto the bed.
Lying beside Geng Wei, she let one small hand begin wandering over him, restless and teasing.
But Geng Wei merely kept his eyes closed and snored on.
“Hey? What’s wrong with you today? Usually you can’t wait.”
Geng Wei did not answer.
“Stop pretending to sleep,” Wang Li said irritably.
Suddenly, Geng Wei seized her hand and began tearing at her clothes.
“Heh-heh-heh!”
Wang Li immediately broke into a coquettish laugh.
She rolled over so her back was toward him. “That’s more like it. I thought something was wrong with you!”
Geng Wei vented his fury, and Wang Li giggled sweetly, letting out one melodious cry after another.
“Turn on the light,” Wang Li said, reaching out with her right hand in habit to switch it on.
Snap.
The room’s light came on.
Wang Li glanced at Geng Wei’s ferocious expression and froze.
She still had not figured out what had gotten into him today.
Suddenly, from a corner of the room, a beam of green light shot forth.
It struck Wang Li squarely in the forehead.
“Ah!”
She let out a piercing scream, and Geng Wei was startled as well.
The green beam shone brilliantly, like a divine force subduing evil, bathing Wang Li in its glow.
“Ah, ah!”
Wang Li cried out in agony. “What is this thing?”
She was still unclothed and sprang upright in a panic.
Trying frantically to dodge the beam, she found that it followed her like a shadow, clinging tightly to her every move.
Her beautiful face turned ashen.
“Which expert is ruining my fun?”
Wang Li shouted, but no one answered.
Her expression darkened, and Geng Wei on the side was utterly stunned.
“What is going on?!”
He shrieked.
Boom.
Wang Li shot up and fled toward the window.
Geng Wei was shocked stiff. This was the fifth floor!
But the green beam slammed directly into her.
Midflight, Wang Li crashed to the floor.
“Ah!”
She gave a miserable cry. Her snow-white body turned red at an alarming speed, as though it were about to burst into flames.
A figure slowly stepped in through the window. It was Zhao Feng.
He looked at Wang Li coldly. “So that’s what it is. Just a cultivator practicing bedroom arts.”
When Wang Li saw Zhao Feng, she was shocked by how young he was.
But now was not the time to hesitate.
She hurriedly dropped to her knees and bowed her head. “Expert, spare me! I had no choice!”
“Hmph.” Zhao Feng snorted. “Impossible. Tell me who is behind this.”
Wang Li clenched her teeth. “Fine, I’ll tell you!”
“Speak!” Zhao Feng shouted sharply, unleashing a sonic blast.
“Ah!”
Wang Li let out a miserable cry, blood trickling from both ears.
She hurriedly kowtowed. “Expert, spare me! I was forced into this too!”
Zhao Feng slowly sat down on the sofa. “Then speak.”
Wang Li hesitated. “This is someone called Divine Eye—”
Before she could finish, she suddenly panicked.
“Expert, save me!”
She screamed.
Boom.
Her body began to burn from within, and in an instant it was engulfed in raging flames.
Zhao Feng gave a cold snort. “You dare snatch someone from my hands? You want to die!”
Boom.
Without another word, he extended his right hand.
Mystic runes swirled around his palm, flashing with light. This time, even Geng Wei, a mere mortal, could see them clearly.
Geng Wei was thoroughly frightened out of his wits. “What is this? A Hollywood blockbuster?”
Zhao Feng thrust out his hand and grabbed at the empty air.
Thud.
A black-clad man dropped to the floor.
The man stared at Zhao Feng in shock. Before he could react, Zhao Feng had already seized him by the throat.
“Speak! Who are you?” Zhao Feng demanded.
“Divine Eye Supreme!”
Those four words left the black-clad man immediately twisting his neck and drawing his last breath.
Zhao Feng’s expression darkened. “He actually killed himself?”
The corpse could not be left here.
Zhao Feng extended his right hand, and with a crackling sound, a fireball appeared.
He tossed it straight onto the body.
Boom.
In an instant, the corpse was engulfed in flames.
After a single breath, it had turned into a pile of ash.
Whoosh.
A gust of wind blew in, and the ashes vanished without a trace.
