Chapter 128: The Legend of Imprisoned Souls
“Rustle!”
In the pitch-black depths of night, a figure slowly emerged.
He walked across the white beach like the Grim Reaper.
“Swish!”
“Swish, swish!”
The headless corpses were still standing, their blood still warm.
Zhao Feng’s figure gradually came into view. With a single step, he appeared before Li Ting.
“It’s you?!”
One of the ninjas let out a ghostly cry.
Zhao Feng frowned. “You know me?”
The man hurriedly shook his head. “No, no, I don’t!”
“Heh heh heh!”
Zhao Feng bared his teeth in a smile resembling that of the Grim Reaper.
He took one step forward and instantly appeared before the man.
“Ah!”
Startled by Zhao Feng’s sudden appearance, the man screamed and dropped heavily onto the ground.
Zhao Feng slowly crouched down and pulled away the black cloth covering the man’s face.
Beneath it was a young face. He was clearly no more than fifteen or sixteen years old.
Zhao Feng patted his cheek. “You know me?”
The boy swallowed and slowly shook his head. “I don’t!”
“Heh heh heh!”
Zhao Feng let out a cruel laugh.
Though his opponent was only a boy, Zhao Feng showed no trace of mercy.
He slowly closed his hand around the boy’s throat. “I’ll give you one more chance. Don’t lie to me. Otherwise, I really will kill you!”
“Gulp!”
The boy swallowed hard.
Zhao Feng sneered coldly. “Now tell me. Do you know me or not?”
“I, I...”
The boy stammered, but no matter how hard he tried, he could not force the words out.
Zhao Feng slowly closed his eyes. “Unfortunately, your time is up.”
A surge of force burst from his palm. In an instant, the boy’s life came to an end.
Until the moment of his death, the boy could not believe that the man before him would truly kill him.
A look of astonishment still lingered on his face.
The surrounding ninjas cried out in disbelief.
“You actually killed the son of the Hunter Venerable?!”
“Ah! You’ll die a horrible death!”
“It’s over, it’s over! You actually killed the Hunter Venerable’s son!”
Zhao Feng slowly rose to his feet.
He grinned. “The Hunter Venerable? Is he famous?”
The ninjas present stared at Zhao Feng in terror.
“It’s over, it’s over! Not only are you going to die, but we’re all going to die too!”
Zhao Feng snorted coldly. “You got one thing right. Every one of you is going to die today!”
“Boom!”
Zhao Feng unleashed all the spiritual energy within his body.
This time, he would not kill with martial arts. He would kill with spiritual energy.
Because spiritual energy had one advantage: it could imprison a person’s soul.
Legend had it that the purpose of cultivating immortality was to kill.
Once one stepped onto the path of immortality, every person one killed would have their soul imprisoned by one’s spiritual energy.
As for whether this rumor was true, no one knew.
But Zhao Feng was different from everyone else. Others might scoff at such a claim, yet he firmly believed that the souls of all those he killed would be imprisoned by his spiritual energy.
Because he had a feeling.
Perhaps, in the beginning, no one truly wanted to kill. But in the end, they all became drenched in blood.
Every life taken by his hand, every soul belonging to those lives, would be imprisoned endlessly.
“Clang!”
A sword cry that seemed to split heaven and earth rang out.
The Little Green Sword flew out on its own.
It circled around Zhao Feng, then swelled dramatically in the wind until it reached a length of three feet.
“Whoosh!”
The ninjas who had come to ambush Li Ting erupted in commotion, all of them staring in shock.
“He’s actually an immortal cultivator?!”
“My God! How is that possible?”
The crowd shrieked in disbelief.
With his hands behind his back, Zhao Feng took one leisurely step forward.
“Pfft!”
The Little Green Sword flashed once, instantly killing a man.
“Pfft! Pfft! Pfft!”
The Little Green Sword continued to flash, and wave after wave of corpses collapsed to the ground.
“The forty-third!”
“The seventy-seventh!”
Only Zhao Feng knew the meaning behind the numbers he was calling out.
With his hands clasped behind his back, Zhao Feng raised his head and glanced at the sky.
Gazing into the profound darkness of night, he murmured, “Will I really change?”
A trace of pain suddenly appeared in Zhao Feng’s heart.
“But I really don’t want to change!”
“I don’t want to become the kind of person I once hated...”
“Senior Sister...”
“Where are you...?”
The slaughter continued.
Every flash of the Little Green Sword represented another death.
No one knew how many times the sword flashed. In the pitch-black night, only a green glow, faint as a candle flame, continued to flicker.
The horrifying scene of slaughter left Li Ting trembling with fear.
She stood there in a daze, staring blankly at Zhao Feng.
Suddenly, she shouted, “Zhao Feng, stop killing!”
“Skree!”
The Little Green Sword halted in midair.
The ground in the area was now covered with corpses. Only one ninja in nightclothes remained standing.
He stood frozen in place, both legs trembling.
“Ah!”
He suddenly let out a scream, turned, and fled.
“Swish!”
A green glow flashed past. The man’s body stiffened before he finally crashed heavily to the ground.
The last man was dead.
Every ninja who had come to assassinate Li Ting had now perished.
Moreover, every one of them had been a martial artist.
The strongest had reached the fifth stage, while even the weakest had attained the second. Nearly two hundred ninjas had all been wiped out.
It was a massacre of unprecedented proportions.
Li Ting stumbled over to Zhao Feng’s side.
From behind, she threw both arms around his waist. “Zhao Feng, stop killing!”
“Alas!”
Zhao Feng let out a sigh.
He glanced toward the eastern horizon, where the first pale light of dawn was appearing. “If Senior Sister had said that to me, I would definitely have listened...”
Zhao Feng broke free of Li Ting’s embrace. The Green Shuttle flew beneath his feet and carried him slowly away.
Li Ting stared blankly at his retreating figure, unable to describe the feelings churning in her heart.
When Zhao Feng returned to the seaside villa, Red Field was still asleep.
He slipped into the bathroom and filled the bathtub with water. Then he took out dozens of medicinal herbs and scattered them into the tub according to a precise formula and method.
Finally, Zhao Feng lowered himself into the bathtub.
Lying in the water, he murmured, “Senior Brother Lin taught me this way of removing the smell of blood. Heh...”
By the time Zhao Feng emerged from the tub, the eastern sky had turned completely white.
He walked out of the room as if nothing had happened, looking like an ordinary man without a care in the world.
Red Field was brewing coffee behind the bar. When she saw Zhao Feng come out, she laughed.
“Would you like a cup?”
Zhao Feng grinned brightly. “Sure!”
There was now no connection whatsoever between the Zhao Feng before her and the Zhao Feng of the previous night.
If Red Field had witnessed Zhao Feng’s appearance as he slaughtered those people, she would surely have been terrified as well.
Zhao Feng accepted the coffee Red Field handed him and walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window. He gazed at the distant white beach beneath the brilliant sunlight.
“Ding-dong!”
The doorbell rang.
Zhao Feng shook his head. “Zhai Xiangyu is here.”
Red Field hurried to the door. “I’ll get it!”
“All right!”
She opened the door, and sure enough, Zhai Xiangyu stood outside.
Zhai Xiangyu bowed respectfully. “The two of you, it’s time for us to leave!”
