Chapter 81: Do You Want to Leave with Me?
"I understand," Zhou Bei said earnestly, lowering his head.
Today, he had been in the midst of negotiations with an overseas conglomerate. Zhou Bei was well aware of the importance of the meeting, which was why he hadn't disturbed his boss at first—after all, his employer was always one to put work above all else.
What surprised him, however, was that Miss Lin, who had only recently joined them, could make his usually composed and reserved boss so anxious.
Was it because Miss Lin had once saved his life?
As Zhou Bei stood there, head bowed and his face marked with puzzlement, his phone suddenly rang. He quickly pulled it out and answered.
"Hello, this is Zhou Bei."
…
At the police station.
Qiao Yucheng had just arrived with Lin Nanxun. The officers on duty, upon seeing Lin Nanxun, immediately recalled something and pulled out a missing persons report from earlier that day.
They compared the photograph and found a match.
Just as Qiao Yucheng was wondering why no one had asked them what they were doing there, an officer approached and spoke to her.
"We've already notified her family and friends. They'll be here soon to take her home."
"So quickly?" Qiao Yucheng’s face was full of surprise—he hadn’t expected the police to act with such speed. It seemed he hadn’t needed to say much at all.
"Yes, her family and friends have been looking for her. Thank you for bringing her in," the officer nodded.
Qiao Yucheng finally understood. "I see."
It seemed her family was quite worried, even though she’d only been missing for a few hours.
He turned to glance at the girl standing quietly beside him, her eyes still red with tears.
He couldn’t help but smile.
It appeared she was right—her family would indeed find her.
Recalling the determined look on her face earlier, he felt a pang of emotion.
Just then, Qiao Yucheng’s phone rang. He answered, his expression shifting after a few seconds.
After ending the call, he turned to the girl at his side.
"Your family will be here soon. I have something urgent to attend to, so I’ll have to leave."
Hearing that he was about to go, Lin Nanxun’s expression changed and she instinctively took two steps after him. Compared to all these strangers, he was the only one she knew, even if just a little. She felt anxious at the thought of being left alone here.
Seeing her reaction, Qiao Yucheng couldn’t help but find it amusing. He asked in confusion, "Do you want to come with me?"
At his question, Lin Nanxun paused, then quickly shook her head.
"I’ll wait here for the bad guy," she replied. Though the unfamiliar environment frightened her, she was clear-headed enough to know that everyone here was good; she would be safe.
Her words made Qiao Yucheng smile, though he felt a twinge of disappointment in his heart. Perhaps it was only because the girl bore a striking resemblance to Yu Mo that he felt this way.
With a gentle sigh, Qiao Yucheng turned and left.
…
Shen Hanzhi and Zhou Bei hurried to the police station.
As they arrived, they spotted a small, pitiful figure sitting alone on the bench. Her head was bowed, and perhaps out of fear, she had pulled the hood of her down jacket over her head. The oversized hood nearly concealed her delicate face.
The moment Shen Hanzhi saw her, his body tensed and a pang of pain stirred in his chest.
"Miss Lin!" Zhou Bei called out joyfully upon seeing Lin Nanxun.
The sound startled Lin Nanxun, who had been sitting anxiously on the bench. After a brief daze, she quickly turned her head to look toward the entrance.
