Chapter 46: Aren’t You Dying to See It?
Hearing the sound of the door opening, Lin Nanxun looked nervously toward the entrance.
The office door was pushed open, and a burly, gray-haired man with a thick beard walked in from outside.
“Mr. Shen…” The bearded man entered, and when he saw that the person sitting in the chair was a petite, slender girl, he paused in surprise and then continued to ask her, “Little one, what are you doing here? Where’s Mr. Shen?”
Lin Nanxun sat in the chair, feeling a bit anxious as she looked at the stranger who had suddenly entered. Ever since she'd fallen ill, she had become fearful of being around unfamiliar people, unable to interact with them.
Seeing that she didn’t respond, the bearded man’s face showed a hint of confusion. “Could it be Mr. Shen hasn’t arrived? That’s impossible—I asked the security, and they said he got here early this morning!”
Lin Nanxun still said nothing, instinctively lowering her head.
“Mute?” Seeing her remain silent, the bearded man looked puzzled, but since she wouldn’t speak, he could only place a stack of papers he was holding onto the desk, find a chair for himself, and sit down.
“Never mind, I’ll just wait here for him.”
Hearing that he planned to wait for the “bad guy” here, Lin Nanxun grew even more anxious. She wanted to say something, but didn’t dare, so she secretly lifted her gaze to observe him.
His face had a pale, slightly odd look. But before she could examine him for long, he suddenly turned to look at her, startling her into quickly withdrawing her gaze and setting it on the desk.
The papers the bearded man had just tossed onto the desk caught her attention. They were blueprints—designs for colorful jewelry. A small line of text read: “Mother’s Day Collection.”
Noticing the girl’s interest in his designs, the bearded man leaned in and asked, “Would you like to take a look?”
Lin Nanxun glanced at him, her gaze timid, but she nodded earnestly.
Seeing her nod, the bearded man understood and hurriedly laid the drafts out before her. “Go ahead.”
The relaxed expression on his face, so at odds with his gruff appearance, surprised Lin Nanxun and eased some of her wariness.
She studied the designs carefully, flipping through each sheet. At her ear came the bearded man’s voice:
“Well? Aren’t they stunning?” In this world, only that oddball Shen Han couldn’t appreciate his creations.
When Lin Nanxun looked up, she found him watching her with self-assured anticipation. She fell silent.
Seeing her quiet, the bearded man waved his hand dismissively, gathering up his drafts. “Forget it. You're just a little girl—you wouldn’t understand.”
As he sighed and checked his watch, curious about when Shen Han would arrive, Lin Nanxun’s soft voice suddenly sounded from the chair:
“They’re not pretty.”
She disliked lying.
Though her voice was gentle, in the quiet office the bearded man heard her clearly, and his cheerful expression froze.
He was about to ask why, when her soft voice sounded again:
“My mother and grandmother wouldn’t like them.”
Lin Nanxun thought carefully, then added this, because the title on the design drafts read “Mother’s Day Collection.”
