Chapter 45: A Villain Is Not So Petty
The elevator doors opened, and several people stepped out. Lin Nanxun followed Shen Hanzhi directly into a spacious office.
As soon as she entered, Lin Nanxun was taken aback, her attention instantly drawn to the glass display case on the front wall. Inside, a multitude of high-end jewelry pieces, all teeming with artistic design, were elegantly arranged.
While Lin Nanxun stood transfixed before the display, her gaze overwhelmed by the dazzling array of jewels, the office door was knocked.
“Come in.”
A young woman with pleasant features entered, carrying a cup of coffee, her face adorned with a smile as she approached Shen Hanzhi.
“Mr. Shen, your coffee,” she said, fixing her eyes upon him, clearly anticipating something.
Unfortunately...
Shen Hanzhi didn’t spare her a glance. He merely cast an indifferent look at the coffee on the table, then suddenly remembered something. Turning to Lin Nanxun, who was still lost in the display, he frowned slightly.
Had she eaten breakfast yet?
“Bring a glass of milk,” he instructed abruptly, his lips pressed together.
At his words, surprise flickered across the young woman’s face. Did Mr. Shen prefer milk?
Just as she nodded and agreed, Shen Hanzhi paused, then added, “And order some breakfast.”
“Should I send it to the conference room?” she asked, puzzled.
“To the office,” Shen Hanzhi replied coolly.
“But... by the time your meeting is over, the breakfast will be cold,” she said, clearly confused.
Nearby, Zhou Bei was also taken aback. Glancing at Lin Nanxun, realization dawned.
“Do as Mr. Shen says. The rest is none of your concern,” he interjected.
The young woman’s expression paled, and she nodded hurriedly. “Yes, I understand.”
With that, she turned and left the office in haste.
Shen Hanzhi checked the time on his wristwatch, then looked at Lin Nanxun and instructed, “Stay here and don’t wander.”
His tone, as he addressed her, was unexpectedly softer than before—something even he hadn’t noticed.
“Okay,” Lin Nanxun snapped out of her reverie and nodded obediently.
Seeing her agreement, Shen Hanzhi finally left the office.
With Shen Hanzhi and Zhou Bei gone, Lin Nanxun lingered before the glass case for a long while, until she began to feel tired.
Then the young woman returned, bringing milk and breakfast. Finding Lin Nanxun alone in the office, she couldn’t resist stealing a couple of glances.
The stranger’s gaze made Lin Nanxun feel uneasy, prompting her to lower her head.
Once the woman departed, Lin Nanxun approached the desk and looked at the breakfast and milk set out for her.
The breakfast consisted of fruit and fragrant bread, looking delicious.
Only then did she realize she was hungry, and she swallowed reflexively.
Yet all this food belonged to the villain—what if he returned and got angry at her for eating it?
This thought made her hesitate.
After a lengthy inner struggle, Lin Nanxun finally decided to eat. After all, the villain wasn’t such a petty person.
...
Just as Lin Nanxun sat back in the large office chair, comfortably enjoying her breakfast, the office door was suddenly knocked from outside.
...
—Knock, knock.
...
The unexpected knock startled Lin Nanxun.
The office was silent; then the person outside suddenly turned the door handle.
