"Boss, we've just received word—after we brought Miss Lin to the hospital, the police found Shen Haohai in the car that hit her. He’d just come out of surgery and is still unconscious. It seems their plan was to target you, then frame Shen Haohai for it." He hadn’t dared to say this earlier, not when the boss looked so grim as Miss Lin was in surgery.

"Also, they found a box by the riverside. Inside was a ring. They want you to come confirm if it’s yours."

"When did this happen?" Shen Hanzhi’s expression turned grave in an instant, his tone heavy.

"Half an hour ago," Zhou Bei replied quickly.

As Zhou Bei finished speaking, Shen Hanzhi’s face changed. He cast a glance at Lin Nanxun, still unconscious, then pressed his thin lips together and instructed, "Arrange for two more people to stay and look after her."

"All right, I’ll see to it right away," Aunt Xu nodded swiftly.

Shen Hanzhi turned to leave, but paused at the door. Something occurred to him—he looked back at Aunt Xu and ordered in a low voice, "Notify me the moment she wakes."

Aunt Xu was taken aback for a second, but quickly responded, "Of course, sir, don’t worry. I’ll take good care of Miss Lin." The man who was always decisive and swift in his departures seemed almost hesitant today.

Only after Aunt Xu had nodded did Shen Hanzhi finally stride away.

As the anesthesia wore off, a wave of pain coursed through Lin Nanxun, rousing her from unconsciousness.

"It hurts..." She opened her eyes and cried out in pain, drawing a sharp breath. Her delicate features twisted from the ache.

"Miss Lin, please don’t move!" Aunt Xu, who’d been keeping watch at the bedside, rose quickly, concern written all over her face.

Seeing Aunt Xu, Lin Nanxun blinked in confusion. She glanced around the unfamiliar room, her expression bewildered.

Sensing her confusion, Aunt Xu patiently explained, "Miss Lin, you were hurt saving sir. You mustn’t move—you need to rest and recover slowly."

Only then did Lin Nanxun’s memories begin to piece themselves together.

She remembered: after the villain got out of the car, she’d stayed inside, feeling uneasy, afraid she’d be abandoned again… Unable to rest easy, she’d followed after him.

But just as she caught up, a car suddenly veered toward the villain. The shock had left her reeling...

The next thing she knew, she was running to block his path.

After that… her memory was a blur. All she knew was that, upon waking, every inch of her body ached.

Seeing her recollection return, Aunt Xu smiled and asked gently, "You remember now, don’t you?"

Lin Nanxun nodded softly. Then, as if recalling something, she looked around in sudden worry. "Where’s the villain…?"

Why wasn’t he here? Where had he gone?

"Sir wasn’t hurt. He just stepped out for a bit—he’ll be back to see you soon," Aunt Xu reassured her.

Hearing this, Lin Nanxun finally let out a sigh of relief.

Thinking back to the moment the car barreled toward the villain, cold sweat still prickled her skin.

He was safe now, but she—she was in so much pain.

Her whole body ached, every inch uncomfortable.
