Chapter 16: Don’t Call Me a Villain!
Hearing Aunt Xu say this, Lin Nanxun hesitated for a moment but still nodded her head.
“Good girl, Miss Lin. Tomorrow I’ll have someone make you some pastries,” Aunt Xu smiled, clearly pleased with her response.
At the mention of pastries, Lin Nanxun immediately nodded happily, which made Aunt Xu even more satisfied as she finally left.
Once Aunt Xu and the other maids had gone, the villa returned to the same quiet as last night. Outside, the rain was falling much heavier than before, and alongside it came the howling of the wind.
Curled up in the corner of her bed, Lin Nanxun clung tightly to her pillow. Though Granny Xu had told her not to leave the room, she couldn’t help but feel afraid…
As the wind and rain grew louder, she couldn’t resist. Hugging her pillow, she slipped out of bed.
...
Lin Nanxun left her bedroom and, as if by instinct, made her way toward Shen Hanzhi’s large master bedroom.
When she pushed the door open, there was no one inside, but she could hear the sound of water from the bathroom.
She tiptoed in quietly…
...
A few minutes later, the sound of running water ceased.
The door opened, and out walked a tall man, wearing nothing but a bathrobe, towel in hand as he dried his short hair.
He took a few steps toward the bed, but then his brows suddenly furrowed.
On his handsome face flashed a trace of displeasure.
He frowned, his gaze landing on the bed… where a girl had already made herself at home under his covers, sitting exactly where she’d lain the night before, her clear and innocent eyes fixed intently on him.
Seeing him approach, Lin Nanxun quickly offered him a smile, as if afraid he might send her away.
It was obvious she planned to sleep here again tonight.
Did she really take him for her nanny?
The thought made Shen Hanzhi’s expression darken with irritation. He, the president of a large publicly listed corporation, reduced to such a humiliating role!
Just as he was about to voice his displeasure, his cold gaze fell upon the girl’s face—so earnest, so full of quiet hope.
His frown deepened…
Looking at her now, Shen Hanzhi, who had been ready to throw her out, found himself momentarily at a loss.
For some reason, the harsh words he’d prepared vanished the instant their eyes met…
The next second, he abruptly turned away and picked up his phone from the nightstand.
“I’ll have a maid come back to keep you company,” he said, glancing over at her.
No sooner had he spoken than he’d unlocked his phone and, as he opened his contacts list to make a call—
He was interrupted by the sound of the girl sniffling beside him.
“Uncle doesn’t want me… and the bad guy doesn’t want me either…” Lin Nanxun looked up at him, hurt and aggrieved, her voice soft and plaintive.
She didn’t want a maid; she just wanted to sleep with the ‘bad guy.’
Because here, it felt comfortable—like the safest, warmest place in the world.
Her sad words made Shen Hanzhi’s frown deepen.
Though she wasn’t crying, her whole face radiated sorrow, and for some reason, it struck a strange chord in his heart…
Women’s tears and tantrums had never worked on him, yet at this moment, he found himself… unexpectedly moved.
A flicker of surprise flashed in his eyes.
“When did I ever say I didn’t want you?” he replied in a low voice, his expression turning stern again as he ordered, “And stop calling me ‘bad guy’!”
