Thinking of this, a complex glimmer flickered in Shen Hanzhi’s dark eyes.

"I’m not afraid of being bored," Lin Nuan said, shaking her head gently with a nonchalant shrug. She never felt bored as long as she was by the villain’s side.

Shen Hanzhi was somewhat taken aback by her response. It made sense; since she was willing to cling to someone as dull and monotonous as him, she naturally wouldn’t be bothered by a little boredom.

Just then, his phone vibrated. He pulled it out, glanced at the number on the screen, and answered.

"Mr. Shen, per your instructions, they have boarded the plane and should arrive this afternoon," his assistant’s voice came through.

"Understood," Shen Hanzhi replied curtly. He hung up and slipped the phone back into his pocket.

That afternoon, in the tea restaurant at the resort.

Because the resort had not yet officially opened to the public, the restaurant was exceptionally quiet. In a private room on the second floor, the man with the handsome yet stern features sat composed and relaxed. Opposite him sat a slightly stout middle-aged man, who was busy outlining his investment plans for the coming year, hoping to entice Shen Hanzhi into a partnership.

Shen Hanzhi leaned back in his chair, listening, though his gaze drifted elsewhere. One wall of the private room was made of transparent glass, offering a clear view of the ground floor.

Below, the beautiful, well-behaved girl was sitting obediently at a table, playing a card game with a five or six-year-old boy. At first, her expression was calm, but as she discarded her final card, a radiant look of joy washed over her face. Even through the soundproof glass, he felt as though he could hear her soft, happy laughter.

Watching her delight, a faint, involuntary smile touched the man’s handsome face. Amidst the drudgery of work, it was a rare moment of genuine pleasure.

"Mr. Shen?" a puzzled voice called out.

Shen Hanzhi snapped back to reality, turning his gaze toward the middle-aged man. His expression immediately returned to its usual steady and calm composure. "Where were we?" he asked.

Seeing this, the man looked sheepishly toward the glass wall, then offered an embarrassed smile. "My apologies, is my child bothering you?"

"Not at all," Shen Hanzhi replied, his thin lips pressed into a firm line as he dismissed the concern. His child seemed to be having a good time with her; perhaps only a child would be willing to play those tedious games with her so sincerely.

Relieved, the man chuckled and continued his explanation. "The boy insisted on coming with me today, and his mother and I had a bit of a spat, so I had no choice but to bring him along. I hope you’ll excuse the intrusion."

Listening to the explanation, something clicked in Shen Hanzhi’s mind, and he glanced at the man. "I thought you were a bachelor for life?"

He had known this man for years, and he vaguely remembered him being a staunch advocate for staying single. Shen Hanzhi’s sudden question caught the man off guard. In all the years they had known each other, this was the first time Shen Hanzhi had shown any interest in his personal life. The man smiled, looking visibly happy as he explained, "I used to be, but then I met my wife. She’s beautiful and has such a gentle temperament that there were too many men chasing after her. I was afraid that if I didn’t marry her quickly, someone else would snatch her away."
