Chapter 135: The Girl Who Cannot Even Take Care of Herself
The sound of footsteps behind him made Shen Hanzhi pause as he was about to get into the car. He turned around and saw the girl, who had just been standing at the doorway, now behind him, gazing at him with her large, beautiful eyes.
She seemed to have something to say.
"What is it?" he asked, looking down at her.
"Bad guy, remember to come back early," Lin Nanxun said in a small voice, staring at him.
"Hmm." Shen Hanzhi raised an eyebrow and replied with forced patience.
Seeing his agreement, Lin Nanxun did not feel entirely at ease and continued with a worried reminder.
"And... you mustn't sleep on the sofa again. You'll catch a cold."
Hearing her long-winded instructions, Shen Hanzhi found it somewhat amusing.
"Nag," he huffed, feigning disdain.
A girl who couldn't even take care of herself was now worrying about him. She was becoming more fussy than Aunt Xu lately!
Seeing that he didn't verbally agree, a look of disappointment flickered across her face. Shen Hanzhi’s dark eyes caught the expression; his brow furrowed slightly, and he said with a hint of impatience, "I won't catch a cold."
With these words, a smile broke across her face.
He looked down at her again and asked, "Anything else?"
"No, that's all..." She shook her head gently and took a step back, letting him get into the car. "Goodbye," she said, smiling at him.
Watching the smile on her face, Shen Hanzhi’s gaze lingered on her for a few seconds before he turned and climbed into the vehicle.
As the car pulled away slowly, Shen Hanzhi leaned back in his seat, watching through the rearview mirror. The girl remained standing at the door, her slender figure appearing as if frozen in place.
As the distance grew, her expression became blurred, but he could still sense her reluctance and sadness through her small, fragile frame. A strange, unfamiliar sensation washed over him—a hollow feeling in his chest that made him feel inexplicably uneasy.
He had lost count of how many business trips he had taken over the years, traveling constantly between cities, yet he had never felt such lingering attachment before. But now, as he watched her figure fade in the rearview mirror, he felt a sudden discomfort, his mind flooded with the image of her sleeping alone on the carpet the night before.
His chest tightened.
The car turned a corner and passed through the iron gates, and the figure in the mirror vanished. Shen Hanzhi’s expression darkened, his mood turning sour.
...
Lin Nanxun remained at the door, watching the "bad guy's" car disappear. She didn't know what there was to see, yet she stood there foolishly.
"Miss Lin, the master has already gone far; let's head back," Aunt Xu said, walking over to gently remind her.
Lin Nanxun didn't speak; she only shook her head softly and stayed put. Watching the bad guy leave made her feel so reluctant... somehow, this scene felt identical to when her uncle had driven away without looking back.
"If you don't want to go, then we'll stay a while longer," Aunt Xu said helplessly.
Just then, the cars that had just exited the iron gates suddenly reversed back toward the house.
Lin Nanxun was startled. Why had the bad guy’s car come back?
Aunt Xu was equally surprised, assuming the master had forgotten something, and quickly began instructing the servants.
