Chapter 133: It Is Not That I Dare Not Speak
It was a long while before he finally lifted his head, his slender fingers gently caressing the soft corner of her eye.
The corners of his lips curved upward ever so slightly.
A moment later, he reached over the side of the bed, scooped her up from the carpet where she had been sleeping soundly, and with light, steady footsteps, strode toward the second floor.
...
Morning.
Lin Nanxun woke up in a daze, tossing and turning in the large bed, surrounded by a scent that brought her immense peace of mind.
She slowly opened her eyes, only to realize she was in the villain’s bed, sleeping right on his pillow.
She rubbed her eyes and hurriedly sat up, instinctively searching for the man.
But he was nowhere to be found.
Lin Nanxun paused for a moment, threw off the quilt, climbed out of bed, and ran straight downstairs.
"Good morning, Miss Lin." The maid greeted her as she came down.
Lin Nanxun trotted all the way to the Christmas tree on the first floor. Seeing it adorned with all sorts of tiny lights and small gift boxes, she couldn't help but reveal a look of pleasant surprise.
"So beautiful..." Lin Nanxun sighed from the bottom of her heart.
The Christmas tree looked even better with the lights on.
The maid followed her, looked in the direction of her gaze, and explained, "It seems the master put these up last night."
When she had left last night, the tree had been bare, and since Miss Lin had already been asleep, the master must have done it all by himself during the night.
Hearing the maid’s words, a wave of delight washed over Lin Nanxun.
She had thought the villain wouldn't return last night; she hadn't expected him to stay and decorate the tree for her.
"Where is the villain?" she turned and asked the maid, her face bright with joy.
"He is having breakfast. You should go wash up and eat as well; aren't you going out with your colleagues today?" the maid reminded her with a smile.
Lin Nanxun then remembered she had promised the bearded man she would go to the farm with them. She nodded and hurried back to the second floor to change and freshen up.
...
Once she had changed and returned to the first floor, Lin Nanxun went straight to the dining room.
Shen Hanzhi had already finished his breakfast and was sitting there, drinking tea and reading the newspaper.
As she entered, Shen Hanzhi’s gaze settled on her.
Zhou Bei was also watching her.
Lin Nanxun didn't notice anything amiss; she simply sat in her usual spot and began to eat her breakfast.
"Ahem..." A soft cough broke the silence.
Shen Hanzhi frowned slightly, looking at Zhou Bei beside him, signaling something with his eyes.
Zhou Bei nodded in understanding, then glanced at the oblivious Lin Nanxun, finally showing a troubled expression.
"Boss, it would be better if you told Miss Lin yourself," Zhou Bei said with a sigh.
The boss had asked him to tell Miss Lin that they would be away on a business trip for a few days, but he had no idea how to bring it up.
It wasn't that he was afraid to say it, but he feared that as soon as he did, Miss Lin would think she was being abandoned again and look at him with a face full of sorrow...
"..." Zhou Bei’s words made Shen Hanzhi’s expression shift.
"What are you saying?" Lin Nanxun, who was mid-breakfast, stopped and looked at the two of them with curiosity.
Shen Hanzhi furrowed his brows and said to her with a straight face, "It’s nothing. Finish your breakfast first."
As he spoke, he glanced at the untouched milk in front of her and added, "Drink your milk."
"Oh." Lin Nanxun nodded obediently. Her picky eating habits had improved quite a bit lately; she now ate a little bit of almost everything, although she still preferred her greens.
