Chapter 13: She Felt at Ease
Will the villain punish her? As she recalled what Granny Xu had just said, Lin Nanxun’s face grew even more anxious.
Seeing her expression, Aunt Xu saw right through her and couldn’t help but chuckle softly, then reassured her.
“Look how worried you are. Don’t worry, sir has already left. He won’t punish you. But you mustn’t do this again in the future.”
Relieved by Aunt Xu’s words, Lin Nanxun finally relaxed, a genuine smile appearing on her face at last.
“What’s this…” At that moment, Aunt Xu lowered her gaze and noticed the bathrobe Lin Nanxun was clutching in her arms, pausing in surprise.
Lin Nanxun looked down as well.
When she woke up, the bathrobe was already in her hands.
It carried the villain’s scent, which made her feel safe, so she had held onto it all along.
“You must be hungry too. I’ll take you to wash up first, and then we’ll go down for breakfast.” Aunt Xu didn’t say much else, but continued in a gentle voice.
At the mention of breakfast, Lin Nanxun’s eyes lit up at once, and she nodded eagerly.
……
Evening.
It had rained all day, as if it would never end, and the downpour still continued.
A black sedan slowly returned to the lakeside villa.
As soon as the car stopped, a servant approached with a black umbrella and opened it.
The car door swung open, and a man in a pure black suit stepped out, his long legs striding forward. His handsome face betrayed no emotion as he walked with meticulous composure into the villa.
“Sir.” The moment he entered, a servant handed him a clean, folded towel.
Shen Hanzhi merely glanced at the towel in the servant’s hands, but did not reach out for it. Instead, he raised his arm, removed his rain-spattered suit jacket, and handed it to the servant.
At this moment, hearing of his return, Aunt Xu hurried down from upstairs.
“Sir, you’re back…”
Shen Hanzhi glanced in the direction of the second floor, then pressed his thin lips together and asked,
“What happened?”
Aunt Xu sighed softly, then replied with a trace of helplessness,
“It’s… Miss Lin. Today, an indiscreet servant told her that her uncle didn’t want her anymore… As a result, she hasn’t eaten or drunk anything since noon, sitting alone in sadness. I tried to comfort her for a long time, but nothing worked.”
After listening to Aunt Xu, Shen Hanzhi frowned slightly, asked nothing further, and simply turned on his heel to head upstairs.
……
Second floor.
In the room.
Lin Nanxun sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, clutching the lollipop her uncle had given her yesterday, her heart heavy with sorrow as she watched a small sapling outside, bent almost double under the relentless rain.
Her beautiful, delicate face was streaked with tears.
Her large, bright eyes were now red and puffy.
Suddenly, the door was pushed open, and the sound of leather shoes on the floor echoed abruptly.
Startled by the noise, Lin Nanxun turned her head in alarm.
She saw the man in a white shirt and black trousers walking toward her.
His handsome, striking face still wore its usual stern expression.
When she recognized who it was, Lin Nanxun froze for a moment, then quickly wiped the tears from her face.
The villain had come back!
Shen Hanzhi stopped in front of her, looking down at the girl still in her nightdress, sitting on the floor. His gaze paused for a moment.
He stared at her with stern eyes for a while before pressing his thin lips together and speaking in a commanding tone,
“Come downstairs with me. It’s time to eat.”
His voice was even more severe than his expression, leaving no room for refusal.
