Chapter 60: Shouldn't Adults Dress Up When They Go Out?
Lu Yuebai rose quickly, but when his feet touched the ground, it still felt unreal. He walked a few steps, his eyes growing hot, and stopped in front of Lu Beiqin. “Brother.”
Lu Beiqin patted Lu Yuebai on the shoulder, smiling with relief. “Congratulations.”
But his body had not fully recovered; after a few steps, he was already out of breath.
Shen Chutang was anxious to return and prepare medicine, so upon confirming Lu Yuebai was fine, she didn’t want to linger any longer.
Old Master Lu, knowing she was busy, simply reminded Lu Beiqin to treat Shen Chutang well—or else he wouldn’t let him off!
In the car, Lu Beiqin finally grew curious about her identity. “I heard you used to live on the mountain. Who taught you medicine?”
“My master,” she replied.
“You got married because your master ordered it, and you learned medicine from him too. Who is your master? One day, I’d like to pay him a visit. Would that be possible?”
These questions, Lu Beiqin could easily investigate. But he chose not to. If Shen Chutang didn’t want to say, he wouldn’t ask.
Shen Chutang nodded. “When there’s a chance in the future, I’ll talk to him.”
It seemed she had no secrets from him—not even the laboratory hidden at home, nor her search for rare and precious herbs. She answered every question. If she truly were sent by someone to approach him, it would be a flawless plan.
Yet Shen Chutang showed no intention of asking for anything from him.
Lu Beiqin looked at her and asked, “Why do you keep helping me?”
Shen Chutang met his gaze, her eyes clear and unclouded. “I told you the day we registered our marriage—these three months, I’ll look out for you.”
Lu Beiqin’s eyes darkened slightly. So that’s how it is. After these three months, the marriage certificate would be void, and Shen Chutang would leave him without hesitation, going to find that man named Ling You!
The atmosphere in the car grew heavy. Shen Chutang looked at him in confusion. “What’s wrong?”
Lu Beiqin curled his lips coldly. “Nothing. Just thinking about you looking out for me for three months—I’m happy.”
Shen Chutang continued to stare at him. “You really shouldn’t smile so much. Smiling like that while driving, you’ll scare the passengers.”
Lu Beiqin, “…”
After dropping her off at home, Lu Beiqin didn’t go in. “I’ve got things to do. I won’t be back tonight.”
Shen Chutang didn’t think much of it; after all, he’d lost a whole day and probably needed to work overtime.
Having slept all day, Shen Chutang wasn’t tired. There happened to be medicine in her laboratory that Lu Yuebai needed, so she worked late into the night, finally finishing the pills at four in the morning.
She packed the pills into a small porcelain bottle, then felt the fatigue hit her. After hours of intense concentration, her mind was exhausted.
She slept until ten the next morning before slowly waking up.
After washing up, she noticed that Lu Beiqin hadn’t returned last night. She took out her phone and found a message from Ye Pianpian.
“Sweetie, you’ve come to the capital?!”
Shen Chutang replied, “Yes.”
Soon, Ye Pianpian called her. “You came to the capital and didn’t even tell me! Zhao Xiangyu and I just arrived too. Let’s find a place to have fun tonight?”
Ye Pianpian and Zhao Xiangyu were Shen Chutang’s good friends. When she was young, her master had said they were going down the mountain to help people, but her master wasn’t a monk or priest—what help was there to give?
Really, it was just an excuse to satisfy his cravings for a good meal.
At the time, a child from a family had fallen gravely ill; her master’s miraculous hands saved the girl. That girl was about Shen Chutang’s age and became her good friend.
Zhao Xiangyu was someone they met later. The three had always been close friends.
But the other two had lived abroad for years, so their friendship relied on email. Now, all three were in the capital, and Shen Chutang agreed without hesitation.
She hadn’t expected that the place they’d chosen for fun would turn out to be a bar.
Ye Pianpian wore a studded jacket, a strapless top, and shorts—a real wild girl look.
Zhao Xiangyu, in a black windbreaker and Martin boots, stood with Ye Pianpian like a rock band duo.
Shen Chutang wore casual clothes, completely out of place in the bar.
Ye Pianpian covered her forehead. “Sweetie, when adults go out to play, you don’t even dress up?”
Shen Chutang retorted, “Dress up for whom? Them? No need.”
Zhao Xiangyu laughed. “Our Tangtang is still as unique as ever. So, what have you been busy with since you arrived in the capital?”
Shen Chutang took a sip of her cocktail and replied calmly, “Not much. I just got married.”
