Chapter 3: He Is Handsome, Charming, and Well-Built
Shen Xuejun was furious. “Shen Chutang, what nonsense are you spouting? For Young Master Jiang to take a liking to you is a blessing you could never earn in eight lifetimes! He’s willing to overlook the past and marry you, and yet you dare speak so rudely!”
Liu Shuhua fanned the flames from the side. “How dare you speak to Young Master Jiang like that? Apologize to him this instant!”
Shen Chutang gazed at her parents with an indifferent look. She even began to suspect she wasn’t their real daughter—otherwise, how could parents be so heartless?
When she was only three, she’d followed her master up the mountain to learn her craft. All these years, Shen Xuejun and Liu Shuhua had never visited her, not even once.
When she finally returned home, she discovered there wasn’t even a room for her in the house.
Yet Shen Chutang didn’t care much for these things; she was never used to living here anyway.
What she hadn’t expected was that, upon encountering such a scoundrel, her own parents wouldn’t help her in the slightest. Instead, they stood with that despicable man, demanding she apologize!
Shen Chutang laughed, the last shred of longing for familial affection extinguished.
“If you like Jiang Han so much, why don’t you marry him yourself? Or better yet, why not ask your other daughter if she’s willing?”
Liu Shuhua snapped, “Your sister is still young! Stop talking nonsense!”
Jiang Han hadn’t expected that after overlooking past grievances and offering to marry her, this woman would show no gratitude. His expression darkened instantly.
“Shen Chutang, marrying you is me doing you a favor! You grew up on a mountain, a wild girl with no proper upbringing. Do you really think anyone in the capital would want you?”
Shen Chutang sneered. “I’m sorry, but I’m already married. My husband has a stable job, he’s handsome, charming, and in every way superior to a scum like you.”
Jiang Han’s face twisted with anger, his sneer faltering. “Shen Chutang, you can’t even lie convincingly. Who in the capital would marry you?”
Even if she was a Shen family daughter, she was nothing more than a foolish woman with no proper education or training.
Liu Shuhua chimed in. “Exactly! You’ve only just returned; how could anyone you know want to marry you? Stop putting on airs and apologize to Young Master Jiang at once!”
After all, the Jiang family was powerful. If they could form a connection, it would certainly benefit Shen Xuejun’s company in the future.
So what if Jiang Han had a reputation with women? What man these days doesn’t like to have some fun?
For a wild girl like Shen Chutang to marry in was already aiming above her station!
Shen Chutang couldn’t be bothered with them. “If you called me back just to say this, then I’m sorry—I don’t have time to waste on your nonsense. My husband is waiting for me. Excuse me.”
With that, Shen Chutang turned to leave, but Shen Xuejun stopped her.
“Your sister returns from abroad tomorrow. We’re hosting a welcome home banquet. Since you’re married, bring your husband. As your parents, we ought to meet him, shouldn’t we?”
Shen Chutang hesitated. She truly didn’t know if Lu Beiqin would be free.
Jiang Han smirked. “What, are you scared?”
“Who’s scared? I’ll bring him, and we’ll be there on time tomorrow!”
After she left, Liu Shuhua whispered, “Tingting is coming home. Why did you insist on calling her?”
Shen Xuejun replied, “She’s clearly lying. Even if she did find a man, I’ll drive him out. Besides, she must marry into the Jiang family. When the time comes, as long as we… she’ll have no choice but to obey.”
