Chapter 167: How Could She Trust Lu Beiqin So Completely?
Lu Beiqin nodded. "Impressive."
Shen Chutang smiled and gave his shoulder a playful bump with her body. However, the man's shoulder was so hard that it made her stumble, and she couldn't help but fall backward.
With quick reflexes, Lu Beiqin reached out and wrapped an arm around her slender waist. "Careful."
The man's large palm rested against her waist, and his warmth radiated through her thin clothes, sending a wave of heat spreading across her waistline.
"Thank you."
Feeling a bit self-conscious, she stepped forward a few steps, her cheeks turning slightly pink. Strange, why did she suddenly feel so warm today?
Lu Beiqin lowered his gaze to look at his own hand, curled it into a slight fist, and hid it behind his back.
On the way back, Shen Chutang looked at their earnings for the night on her phone, an unstoppable smile blooming across her face.
Lu Beiqin glanced down at the amount. Subtracting the fact that Shen Chutang had originally purchased the vegetables at several times the market price, plus the labor costs, they had actually operated at a loss.
Shen Chutang split the total amount fifty-fifty straight away. "We made a good profit tonight. Let's do it again next time!"
Lu Beiqin suggested, "How about taking a break for a while?"
Shen Chutang shook her head. "How can we do that? Didn't you see how many customers booked our time for next week? We can't break our promise."
Lu Beiqin looked at her. "You're tired."
"Not tired at all. It's my first time trying to set up a street stall and sell things, it's fun."
Shen Chutang looked at the money on her phone. Clearly, selling a single small medicinal pill of hers could earn her far more money than this, but for some reason, she was just happy.
Seeing this, Lu Beiqin didn't say anything further.
Yet Shen Chutang did feel tired by tonight. Because business had picked up toward the end, she had stood and worked continuously for hours, and now she was feeling drowsy as she sat in the car.
When they arrived home, Lu Beiqin glanced over at her and found that Shen Chutang had already fallen asleep.
Naturally, sleeping in a car wasn't as comfortable as sleeping in a bed. Lu Beiqin parked the car, walked over to Shen Chutang's side, unbuckled her seatbelt, and gently scooped her up into his arms.
Shen Chutang was very slender, and lifting her took no effort at all.
Lu Beiqin carried her all the way to her bedroom and laid her down. The moment she sensed the familiar bed, Shen Chutang immediately rolled over, hugged her pillow, and fell into a deep sleep.
Lu Beiqin lowered his gaze to look at her. After a minute, he stood up and slowly backed out of the room.
...
Shen Chutang slept straight through until the next morning. When she groggily opened her eyes and looked at the ceiling, she had no idea what day or time it was for a moment.
With a yawn, she rubbed her eyes and was astonished to find that she was still wearing last night's clothes. Strange, did she really not change her clothes?
Wait, she remembered getting in the car last night, and then splitting the money... and after that, her memory went completely blank.
Did she just fall asleep right then and there last night?
No way!
Sleeping that soundly!
She didn't even wake up when she was carried into bed like a sack of potatoes?
Back in the day, she had been an extremely light sleeper, able to wake up if someone so much as tossed and turned slightly. What on earth was wrong with her?
Was she getting old and prone to sleepiness?
That wasn't right either!
Shen Chutang, since when did you let your guard down around Lu Beiqin to this extent!
Shen Chutang tossed and turned on the bed, rolling back and forth while pulling the blanket over herself. Suddenly, someone knocked on her bedroom door. Her movements froze instantly, and she hurriedly sat up. "Come in!"
Lu Beiqin pushed the door open, but stood in the doorway without stepping inside. "Are you getting up for breakfast?"
"Y-yes, right away."
Lu Beiqin seemed to have guessed that she hadn't gotten out of bed yet. "Alright, take your time waking up. Come out for breakfast in half an hour."
With that, Lu Beiqin closed the door and left, without stepping inside the room at all.
Shen Chutang breathed a small sigh of relief. She had slept the whole night away like this—she had no idea what kind of bird's nest her hair had turned into.
Once the man left, Shen Chutang rushed into the bathroom, washed herself from head to toe, dried her hair, and changed her clothes. Exactly half an hour had passed.
She pushed the door open and walked out. Lu Beiqin was holding a steaming bowl of spicy instant noodles. The broth was rich and thick, neatly topped with slices of luncheon meat and a fried egg on top. The aroma was mouth-watering.
Shen Chutang looked at it in disbelief. "You made this?"
"You don't like it?"
"I love it!"
Shen Chutang bent down and took a huge bite, then gave a thumbs up. "If you went out to set up a street stall with cooking like this, there wouldn't even be a role left for me."
Lu Beiqin sat down. "Seeing how much you enjoyed those things at the night market last night, I figured you would probably like this flavor of noodles, too."
Shen Chutang nodded repeatedly. She had no idea how the man had made this soup base, but it was simply too delicious!
After finishing the bowl of spicy ramen, Shen Chutang sat on the couch, still craving more.
Today was Sunday, and both of them had the day off. They were planning to attend Ye Pianpian's fashion show today, but since it was scheduled for the evening, there was still plenty of time.
The two of them stayed in the apartment, each keeping to themselves without disturbing the other.
When evening finally arrived, Shen Chutang took Lu Beiqin and headed out to the exhibition hall.
Just as they reached the entrance, Shen Chutang looked at the stream of people walking in and out, and it finally dawned on her—should she have dressed a bit more formally?
Lu Beiqin looked at her. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. Let's go in."
"Well, well, Shen Chutang, why aren't you out selling things at the night market? What brings you here instead? Could it be that you changed jobs so quickly and came here to sweep the streets?"
Shen Chutang turned around and saw Shen Duoduo walking over, arm-in-arm with a man.
Shen Duoduo was carrying a handbag in her hand. Shen Chutang glanced at it—it looked familiar.
