Chapter 10: Don’t Even Think About My Husband
In her mind, cab drivers were always men in old sweaters and baggy pants, sporting a prominent beer belly. So when Shen Tingting brought her group outside, she scanned the area for such middle-aged men.
Tian Xiaowei couldn’t help but remark, “How strange, where is he?”
Shen Tingting sneered, “A man that fat and greasy probably feels too embarrassed to show himself.”
Suddenly, Shen Tingting’s gaze landed on a tall, well-built man standing off to the side.
His face was striking enough to make people gasp—a sharply defined brow, high nose, and an austere handsomeness. Dressed in an ink-black suit, he appeared even taller and more imposing, exuding an aloof, imperious bearing with just a glance.
Shen Tingting’s heart skipped wildly. Judging by his attire, he must be another guest invited to tonight’s banquet. Her face flushed, her heart racing, she feigned nonchalance as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Hello, I’m Shen Tingting. This banquet is being held for me. You must be an invited guest too. Why aren’t you going in?”
Lu Beiqin looked at her but said nothing.
Shen Tingting walked over, and as she drew near, she deliberately staggered as if to fall right into his arms.
Lu Beiqin took a step back, and she landed squarely on the ground, wincing from the pain.
How could this man lack even a shred of gentlemanly conduct, not even bothering to help her up!
Shen Chutang approached Lu Beiqin and gave him a meaningful look.
The man seemed a bit lost and didn’t react.
Shen Chutang simply grabbed his hand and placed it around her own waist, nestling up to him. “I didn’t expect the capital to be so proper. Please, rise.”
Shen Tingting froze. This man actually had his arm around that wild girl Shen Chutang!
“Shen Chutang, you did that on purpose!”
Watching the other girl’s pained grimace, Shen Chutang shrugged innocently. “I really don’t know what you mean. Let me introduce everyone—this is my husband, Lu Beiqin.
“So, for those who were hoping to make a move, please take the hint. He’s already taken. Don’t get any ideas about my husband, and spare us the cheap act of pretending to fall into his arms.”
Shen Chutang’s declaration was forceful and unyielding, while Lu Beiqin stood beside her, glancing down with an amused look in his eyes.
The girl carried a faint, delicate scent; her waist was so slender he could encircle it with one hand.
Shen Tingting, embarrassed and furious, scrambled to her feet. “What good is a handsome man if he’s just a cab driver! You two are a perfect match—an outsider and a stray!”
With a crisp sound, Shen Chutang raised her hand and slapped her across the face.
Clutching her stinging cheek in disbelief, Shen Tingting exclaimed, “You actually hit me! Even my parents never hit me—how dare you!”
At that moment, Liu Shuhua arrived. Shen Tingting immediately flung herself into her arms to complain.
Liu Shuhua pointed at Shen Chutang, her voice sharp with anger. “How did our Shen family ever raise such a shrew!”
“Mom, I was just helping you teach her a lesson,” Shen Chutang replied earnestly. “Look at all the guests we invited today. Shen Tingting is the star of the evening, and as her sister, I can overlook her lack of respect for me, but she also insulted my husband. I know you’re trying to help her snag a wealthy husband, but with a mouth like hers, who would dare marry such a handful? Don’t you agree, Mom?”
“You—!”
Everyone present had witnessed the scene unfold, taking note of Shen Tingting’s behavior. They were even more surprised to realize the Shen family’s true intentions.
“If she’s this overbearing at home, who’d dare marry such a tigress?”
“And to think she studied abroad! I’ve seen seven-year-olds with more sense.”
“No wonder they’re throwing such a grand welcome party—it’s all just a matchmaking ploy!”
Now Shen Tingting was at a loss for words. Surrounded by disdainful glances, she stomped her foot in frustration and ran off.
