067 Offering His Younger Sister to Another?
Could it be that her brother was willing to let her leave? To go with this man, Xue Feng! They had only known each other for less than an hour—who could possibly know what kind of person Xue Feng truly was? Was her brother pushing her into the very jaws of danger?
What Liu Qiqi didn’t know was that Liu Jun had his own reasons. If he refused Xue Feng’s request now, everyone here would inevitably die, including his sister. Liu Jun realized, too, that his own abilities might not be enough to protect her forever. Finding her a new protector was, in truth, the wisest option.
Moreover, Liu Jun had noticed the two beautiful women by Xue Feng’s side looked genuinely happy. At the very least, his sister wouldn’t suffer if she followed Xue Feng.
“Very well. Since time immemorial, the eldest brother is as a father. Your brother has made the decision for you, so I will help you resolve this crisis,” Xue Feng nodded immediately.
Liu Qiqi was utterly stunned. She hadn’t expected her fate to be decided so easily—her brother had handed her over to a stranger! Why?
“The most important thing you must do now is reinforce the fences around here!” Xue Feng said. “The previous iron railings can only keep out the zombies, not other survivors—or even cement trucks.”
“Also, you need to send people to the rooftop to keep watch on the surrounding area at all times,” Shen Ruyan stepped forward and began giving orders.
In her view, this survivor base was far too rudimentary. Their survival so far was purely because they had enough food and, by luck, the number of zombies nearby was low and hadn’t besieged them. Luck had played a significant role.
The survivors around quickly began to act. Soon, both sides of the street were reinforced. They pushed some scrapped cars over to block the ends, scattered sharp objects like iron nails across the front. Now, no vehicle could easily destroy their defenses.
Having finished all this, Liu Jun sighed in admiration. Why hadn’t he thought of such measures before?
“They’re coming again!” At that moment, someone monitoring from the rooftop shouted anxiously.
Two cement trucks, three modified pickup trucks, and the SUV that had previously fled—six vehicles in total—stopped two hundred meters away on Gourmet Street. It was evident they were wary of Xue Feng’s abilities.
Though the distance was considerable, Xue Feng could see them clearly. In the beds of the three pickup trucks sat over twenty people, each with colored hair, some wearing sunglasses. Xue Feng couldn’t help but scoff—afternoon already, what was the point of sunglasses? Purely posturing idiots.
Yet as one man climbed out of a pickup, Xue Feng’s eyelid twitched. It wasn’t that this guy was particularly formidable—in fact, his hair was dyed in loud, rooster-like colors, and his face bore a devilish tattoo that made Xue Feng sick. What truly caught his attention was the military rifle slung across the man’s shoulder.
These people had guns? Where had they gotten them?
Xue Feng had always wanted to know where the city’s armories were, but such information was tightly guarded. Now that this man had a gun, he surely knew a source. Unexpectedly, Xue Feng had stumbled upon a valuable clue.
He smiled—his waiting here had not been in vain.
“Listen up in there! I am the leader of the Green Storm, the chosen one bestowed with power by the gods!” the rooster-head shouted through a loudspeaker, his voice thunderous. “Within ten minutes, hand over the murderer who killed my family! If you do, I may consider letting you join us. Otherwise, I’ll raze this place to the ground!”
“All the women will become my lowest slaves! All the men will have their limbs cut off and fed to the zombies!” His words ended, and his followers erupted in cheers, howling like madmen.
Witnessing this, Shen Ruyan’s gaze was filled with disdain. “If I have to live like that, I’d rather die,” she said, having been highly educated—completely different from these drug-addled lunatics.
“They’re nothing but maniacs,” You Haoyun thought, grateful she’d encountered Xue Feng instead. Had she met such lunatics, she’d surely be driven mad herself.
Liu Jun, originally tense at the sight of so many enemies, felt reassured seeing Shen Ruyan and You Haoyun so relaxed, not even regarding these people as a threat. His conviction deepened—his sister would have a much better chance of survival with Xue Feng.
“But you must be careful, sir. That man claims to be the chosen one—he might possess powers,” Shen Ruyan reminded him. Despite the rooster-head’s ramblings, there were still valuable clues in his words.
“Don’t worry. Let them witness the might of the apocalypse armored vehicle!” Xue Feng smiled, eager to test the upgraded vehicle.
On the other side, rooster-head and his gang were growing impatient. Though only two minutes had passed, he was already restless.
“Damn it! So you won’t surrender? Get ready, all of you!” he barked. “Let’s rush in and show them our strength! Kill all the men, drag the women back for some real fun. Remember, there’s an armored car—that’ll be my exclusive ride…”
He hadn’t finished speaking when he froze, staring in disbelief. From their direction, a towering armored vehicle gleaming with metallic sheen rolled forward.
“This must be the armored car they mentioned… but it seems a bit different,” the blond-haired thug shouted excitedly, though his expression soon shifted to terror.
He noticed the front of the armored car sported a cannon as thick as a bucket. Even atop the vehicle, there was a machine gun mounted.
What was this monstrosity?
Rat-a-tat-tat! Before they could react, two electromagnetic shells fired off.
Boom!
The six vehicles lined up together were instantly struck, and three pickup trucks were blown sky-high. Many of the unruly youths died in the explosion; others lay stunned on the ground.
“Yes!” Xue Feng shouted from inside, unable to contain his excitement. The armored car’s firepower upgrade had made it formidable! The only regret was the enormous energy consumption of the electromagnetic cannon—it drained half the vehicle’s reserves instantly, and self-recharge would require a full day.
If only he could modify the vehicle’s energy source, using the zombie crystal cores as fuel, it would enable rapid charging and elevate its combat strength to a whole new level.
Without hesitation, Xue Feng slammed the accelerator, and the armored car instantly sped up to a hundred miles per hour, charging furiously toward the group.
