Xue Feng had not expected to discover a Tier Three mutant the moment he reached the entrance to the residential compound.

It saved him a great deal of trouble.

The black panther bared its teeth, its mouth open in a constant snarl. It seemed eager to test itself against the Tier Three mutant.

“Your strength isn’t enough yet. We’ll talk about it after you’ve grown a little stronger.” Xue Feng patted the panther on the head.

At present, the black panther was only somewhat stronger than an ordinary Tier One mutant.

It still could not defeat a Tier Two mutant, let alone contend with a Tier Three one.

“Whine…”

The black panther seemed unhappy that it could not protect its master.

Yet all it could do was lower its head and accept the fact that it was not strong enough.

“Come on. Let’s go in and take a look.”

Xue Feng entered the compound.

It was easy to see that there had originally been defensive measures, such as barriers, at the entrance to keep zombies from getting inside.

But they had all been completely destroyed by the zombie tide.

Although most of the zombies in the previous tide had been chasing Xue Feng, zombies were ultimately driven by instinct.

Even under the control of a Tier Four mutant, they would still pounce on any living person they encountered.

It was unavoidable.

Sure enough, after entering the compound, Xue Feng caught the faint smell of blood.

Someone had probably died only recently.

Otherwise, the scent of blood would not still be lingering in the air.

With the black panther there, Xue Feng did not need to deliberately search for the Tier Three mutant.

The panther kept staring in one direction, its eyes filled with hostility.

That was where the Tier Three mutant was.

Before long, Xue Feng spotted a very strange zombie in the eastern district of the compound.

It was short, standing only about one and a half meters tall.

Yet its body gleamed with a metallic sheen.

Although it stood motionless, it still gave off an unsettling feeling.

Without a doubt, this was the Tier Three mutant he had been looking for.

Ding!

Abilities: Heavenly Thunder (Tier Two, Level Seven), Stone Skin (Tier Two, Level Three), Time Zero (Tier Two, Level Three)

Heavenly Thunder had already reached Level Seven!

Xue Feng was tremendously excited. He wondered when his Heavenly Thunder would reach Tier Three.

What kind of power would Tier Three Heavenly Thunder possess?

There were too few zombies now, and Xue Feng’s own improvement had become painfully slow.

Even though he had recently been devouring crystal cores like mad, the only abilities that had advanced were Stone Skin and Time Zero.

Perhaps Heavenly Thunder’s level was simply too high, which was why it developed so slowly.

The instant Xue Feng and the black panther appeared, the Tier Three mutant noticed them.

A look of excitement suddenly gleamed in its pitch-black eyes.

It lunged at Xue Feng.

Because of its small size, it moved with astonishing speed, like a streak of black shadow.

“Heavenly Thunder!”

Yet before Xue Feng, the Tier Three mutant could no longer pose any threat.

A bolt of lightning as thick as a barrel crashed viciously into its body.

Sparks erupted from the zombie in an instant, followed by billowing clouds of smoke.

Then it collapsed to the ground and lay motionless.

It had not even had time to reveal what was special about it.

Xue Feng did not care in the slightest.

When he reached the Tier Three mutant, he crushed its head beneath one foot and removed the crystal core inside.

“Whine, whine!”

The black panther jumped back and forth beside him, apparently eager to try the crystal core.

After all, this was the core of a Tier Three mutant!

“You just ate one. Don’t gorge yourself to death!” Xue Feng said with a helpless smile, patting the panther on the head.

He knew that dogs had a habit of eating until they could not eat anymore.

He had to keep it under control.

Otherwise, the black panther might literally eat itself to death.

The panther lowered its head in disappointment, but that was all it did.

It did not throw a tantrum.

“All right. Next, let’s see how the survivors in the underground parking garage are doing.”

Xue Feng began searching for the entrance to the underground garage.

At the same time, directly beneath Xue Feng’s feet, more than a dozen people were gathered in a confined space.

A portable lamp stood among them, illuminating every face with crystal clarity.

Even so, it was obvious that their expressions were growing worse by the minute.

“What are we supposed to do? Are we really going to stay here until we starve to death?” someone asked helplessly.

At those words, everyone turned to look at a man in the middle.

The man appeared to be in his early thirties and was dressed in sportswear.

“Boss, we can only rely on you now. I feel like I’m about to collapse,” another woman said in a hoarse voice.

Their group had been trapped there for more than ten days.

Their supplies had long since been exhausted.

Most of their food was gone.

They said “most” because everyone now knew that one person still had food in his pocket.

That person was the one they called Boss.

Lin Heng was the backbone of their group.

Not merely because he had once been a business owner, but also because he was an ability user.

They had survived this long because of Lin Heng.

But now they had reached a dead end.

“What else can we do? That Tier Three mutant up there is too alert. Several of us have already died. Unless one of you is willing to go scout the way again!” Lin Heng snarled, his face twisted with rage.

At those words, everyone fell silent.

If not for that Tier Three mutant, they would have already found the entrance to the basement.

It would have charged in long ago and killed them all.

“Anyway, there’s still a little food here. Whoever wants to eat it can do so.”

The food Lin Heng referred to was the material inside a sack beside him.

The sack looked stuffed to bursting, as though it held a great deal.

Yet no one had any interest in what was inside.

Because it was not food at all.

It was a pile of straw they had found in the underground garage.

No one knew what it had originally been used for, but now it had become the last food Lin Heng could offer them.

Could straw be eaten?

Livestock probably could eat it.

Humans could eat a little as well, but too much would leave them constipated to death.

Earlier, one man had been driven mad by hunger and swallowed a large amount of straw.

His stomach acid could not dissolve it, and he had died from an obstruction.

If they did not eat the straw, they would starve to death.

But if they ate it, they would die all the same.

“Then there’s only one way left. We draw lots! Let’s see who can make a contribution so the rest of us can survive!” Lin Heng said coldly.

Draw lots!

Everyone shuddered at those words.

They all knew exactly what drawing lots meant.

Not long before, they had reached an agreement.

Whoever drew the losing lot would be eaten.
