When Xue Feng saw the male doctor, his expression shifted slightly.

The doctor’s white coat was covered in blood, as though he had just come from a major hemorrhage operation.

Yet his face was perfectly calm, as if nothing important had happened.

But Xue Feng knew very well that performing a major operation in an environment like this was impossible.

What exactly was this hospital doing?

Human research. Experimental materials.

Those words kept repeating in Xue Feng’s mind.

Perhaps some inhuman experiment was being conducted here—and the materials they used were human beings.

“Is it fresh material?” the male doctor asked.

“That’s right. They were just delivered. Extremely fresh,” the head nurse replied with a nod.

“Then send them directly to the director’s office. The director has used up his supply and needs something fresh,” the doctor said.

“But these few haven’t been interrogated yet,” the head nurse protested.

“It would be bad if they were damaged. Just send them over. That’s the director’s order,” the doctor repeated.

Upon hearing that it was the director’s order, the head nurse hesitated no longer.

She led Chen Yilei and the others away with the male doctor.

Xue Feng became even more certain that, in this place, the director’s commands were absolute.

He was simply puzzled.

According to the system’s prompt, wasn’t the director mentally ill?

Why, then, were so many normal people obeying his orders?

What was going on here?

Still, now that he had located the basement, he naturally had to go inside and take a look.

After all, there was information he needed to verify—the imprisoned Qin Fengshan.

When he reached the place where the head nurse and the others had been standing, Xue Feng discovered an iron door.

It was not locked and could be opened directly.

He quietly pushed it open and slipped inside, only to find a staircase leading downward.

After descending seven or eight meters, he finally discovered a vast underground space.

It covered at least four or five hundred square meters, and electric lights illuminated the area.

A cold, rotten stench drifted through the air.

Xue Feng immediately understood. This basement had originally been a morgue.

Hospital basements were usually used as morgues or storage rooms.

But this one had now been converted into a prison.

Rows of iron bars divided the space into numerous tiny cells.

Several dozen survivors were imprisoned there, each of them barely clinging to life.

Clearly, they had not eaten for a long time and were only just managing to avoid starving to death.

Yet a few of the survivors made Xue Feng feel uneasy.

They wandered incessantly around their cells in a daze, occasionally throwing themselves against the bars.

“Are they mentally ill?” Xue Feng murmured to himself.

What puzzled him was that if these people really were insane, why were they still being kept here?

They should have no value.

Moreover, these few mentally ill survivors seemed to possess astonishing strength. Some of the bars had already been bent out of shape by their repeated impacts.

And besides human beings, Xue Feng even saw zombies in several of the cells.

All of them had been placed in restraint garments, leaving them completely unable to harm the living. They could only shuffle endlessly along the bars, producing meaningless, hoarse roars.

At the center of the basement, a man was strapped to a hospital bed.

Several people in white coats surrounded him.

“You’ve got a tough mouth, kid. We locked you in with zombies for two days, and your mind still hasn’t collapsed. You’ll make excellent material for our experiments.” One of the doctors let out a chilling laugh.

“Exactly. Most ordinary people can’t endure even half a day.”

“Looks like we’ll have to take action this time. Otherwise, this fellow won’t tell us the truth.”

The others issued similarly sinister chuckles.

They stared at the man on the bed with eager anticipation.

“I’ve already told you! I really am alone. There’s no organization behind me!” the man wailed.

It was Qin Fengshan.

“Do you take us for fools? You drove here alone, carrying firearms and grenades. How could one person acquire all those supplies?” the doctor rebuked.

“It really was luck! I found them lying on the ground!” Qin Fengshan nearly burst into tears.

Anyone who did not know the circumstances might have believed that he was telling the truth.

This surprised Xue Feng, who was watching from a distance.

He had not expected Qin Fengshan to be so tight-lipped.

He had not revealed any information about Xue Feng’s base.

And judging by his current condition, Qin Fengshan was already in grave danger.

Ding!

Congratulations, host. Your information verification was successful. You have been rewarded with one level of the supernatural ability Time Zero.

At that moment, the system’s reward notification rang in Xue Feng’s mind.

Agility: 52

Spirit: 31

Endurance: 52

Luck: 38 (+100)

Supernatural abilities: Divine Sky (Second Tier, Level 3), Stone Skin (Second Tier, Level 1), Time Zero (Second Tier, Level 2)

Time Zero was one of Xue Feng’s most important abilities, so this improvement was well worth it.

Ordinary supernatural ability users possessed only a single ability.

Xue Feng, however, had three.

That meant he was destined to rely on the system’s rewards if he wanted to improve his abilities quickly.

Otherwise, whether by consuming crystal cores or using other methods, the rate at which his abilities advanced would be extremely slow.

But Xue Feng was not paying attention to his attributes at all. His entire focus was on Qin Fengshan.

“How come I’ve never found any? You must be very lucky!” The male doctor clearly did not believe Qin Fengshan’s story.

No matter how convincing Qin Fengshan sounded, there was still no explanation for why he was carrying firearms and grenades.

“Really! It’s all true!” Qin Fengshan gasped.

“We were too polite with you these past two days. Today, we’ll try something different. Do you know what this is?” As he spoke, the male doctor produced a small knife.

It was only about the length of a thumb.

“An imported surgical knife. Four thousand dollars apiece. Razor-sharp. When it cuts off your little brother, you won’t feel any pain—just a brief chill down there. If ancient times had possessed surgical conditions like these, the death rate during castration wouldn’t have reached forty percent.” The male doctor gave a sinister little laugh.

Apparently, he intended to turn Qin Fengshan into a eunuch.

“No! No!” Qin Fengshan screamed in terror.

“Hold him down. Let me do it!” The male doctor raised the surgical knife high.

A flash appeared in the darkness.

“Divine Sky!”

A bolt of lightning as thick as an arm struck the male doctor with unerring accuracy.

Then it struck the others surrounding Qin Fengshan.

In an instant, the group collapsed to the floor. They did not even have time to scream. White smoke poured from their bodies, and the air filled with the stench of charred flesh.

The imprisoned survivors nearby instinctively swallowed.

But their eyes held even greater fear.

They had no idea what had happened.

Only Qin Fengshan’s eyes shone with delight.

He had seen this supernatural ability before!
