110 Flames, Explosions, and Bloodied Corpses!
The shadow transformed into an even larger dark veil, blocking all paths for the blood zombie, completely enveloping it. It became clear that the shadow’s pursuit was not aimless; it had deliberately cornered the blood zombie. If it were still that massive behemoth from before, it would have been impossible to block every escape route. The blood zombie could have easily slipped away from the sides. But now it was different—the shadow had nearly formed a semicircular sphere, completely covering the blood zombie.
"Excellent! The leader is incredible!"
"Take down this bloody monster. Could it be a fourth-tier mutant?"
"Damn, it almost killed me earlier."
The base guards breathed a sigh of relief. Before this, not a single zombie engulfed by the shadow had survived. They confidently expected the same outcome this time. Yet, in the next moment, the unexpected happened. The shadow trembled violently and burst outward. When it landed, it transformed into a man in his fifties—the leader himself.
The leader was gasping for breath, blood dripping from his mouth.
"No… its energy surpasses mine… but it’s injured too… find a way to deal with it!" he gasped intermittently.
Higher energy? Xue Feng suddenly understood. It seemed the leader’s power was to control a certain black energy entity that could absorb targets with less energy than itself. But when facing a target with greater energy, he was helpless.
This ability! Xue Feng shook his head involuntarily. It seemed powerful and mysterious but was extremely limited. When confronted by a stronger opponent, it was powerless to retaliate. Still, it was many times stronger than an ordinary person.
The leader was wounded, and the blood zombie was far from unscathed either. Xue Feng noticed its left arm had disappeared—likely absorbed earlier. The other guards’ faces darkened upon seeing this. Even missing an arm, the blood zombie was beyond their ability to handle.
Then, everyone watched clearly as the blood zombie’s left shoulder twitched. A brand-new blood-red arm sprouted instantly.
"Regeneration! That fast?"
Xue Feng couldn’t help but exclaim.
Earlier, he had encountered second-tier mutants with regenerative abilities, but even those took time to heal. The blood zombie’s rapid regrowth was astonishing. This scene completely shattered the remaining morale inside the base. The base had been held together by the leader’s iron-fisted control. Now, with the leader injured and an unstoppable enemy present, everyone made the same choice: flee!
Those still resisting began to break ranks; some rushed to their vehicles, others sought refuge inside buildings. The few with special abilities desperately used their powers to escape. But as resistance crumbled, more zombies poured in, surrounding every last person. Only the leader alone transformed back into a shadow, barely holding the zombies at bay.
Seeing this, Xue Feng knew it was time to act.
"Ugly freak, look this way!" he shouted at the blood zombie.
He stood atop a row of vehicles—more precisely, a line of fuel tankers seized from a nearby gas station earlier that day by the leader’s group, neatly parked in the corner of the yard. The blood zombie, initially charging toward the leader, turned sharply upon hearing Xue Feng’s voice, fixing its gaze on him before lunging without hesitation.
Apparently, the blood zombie found Xue Feng’s head more interesting. Not only the blood zombie but all the zombies in the yard were drawn by Xue Feng’s voice, converging toward him.
"Perfect! I’ve got a special gift for you!" Xue Feng roared, leaping high into the air.
The blood zombie’s mouth curled into a smile, intent on repeating the tactic used to kill the brown bear—instant decapitation. But as it leapt, it was met with an electric arc at least thirty centimeters thick.
"Shenxiao!" Xue Feng bellowed—a thunderous might!
In an instant, the blood zombie’s body was pierced through; its veins and muscles blackened and charred.
"Roar!" the blood zombie screamed in agony.
Its cries only fueled the other zombies, which immediately abandoned their prey and surged toward Xue Feng.
But what awaited them was a massive explosion!
Xue Feng’s ability detonated over a dozen fuel tankers.
Boom! Boom! Boom! Chain explosions!
Countless zombies were blasted away, their bodies coated in gasoline, continuing to burn. Flames rose from the ground, forming a small mushroom cloud in the sky.
At the explosion’s heart, Xue Feng was blown away by the shockwave. The sudden intense heat scorched his skin. Fortunately, his stone-like skin provided not only defense but also heat resistance. Still, his clothes were instantly incinerated, and he was hurled hundreds of meters away.
"Good thing I’m not dead," Xue Feng muttered as he got up and checked himself. To his surprise, he had no wounds—just an unusually hot body. Without his stone skin, he would have been charred to a crisp by now.
However, he knew he couldn’t maintain this state for long, or the internal organs would suffer heat damage. He quickly retrieved several large bottles of mineral water from his spatial backpack and poured them over his head. White steam rose from him, like water cooling hot stone.
Once cooled, Xue Feng exhaled deeply, eyes fixed on the still-burning explosion center. He was certain the blood zombie was dead. After all, the second-tier Shenxiao ability had an added effect—the annihilation effect! Any regenerative power would be nullified under Shenxiao’s might.
But Xue Feng had no time to deal with the blood zombie’s remains. He pressed off in one direction. Within minutes, he returned carrying someone: the leader.
While Xue Feng fought the blood zombie, the leader had managed to escape, now more severely wounded, clearly from battling Xue Feng. Approaching an armored vehicle, Xue Feng opened the door.
Inside, Qin Fengshan, seeing Xue Feng, instantly relaxed. The sounds from outside—zombie roars, human screams, and fierce explosions—had left him on edge. Stepping out, his first sight was the ground littered with zombie corpses.
The zombie tide was finally over.
