My Fiery Girlfriend
Chapter Nine: Never See Me Again

At that moment, the entire bathroom was filled with the red-haired chubby man's blood-chilling screams, and at the same time I saw that Summer was terrified by Luo Qing's gaze, his body trembling so slightly that he seemed about to collapse to the floor at any instant.

Over the fat man's agonized cries, Luo Qing gave a cruel, small smile. She lifted one foot in a black stiletto heel and planted it directly on his head, pressing down just enough that his forehead slammed against the tile with a dull thud. Then she laughed, “Have you figured it out now—who put you up to this?”

“Ugh…” The fat man's voice had become thick and indistinct, as if he could no longer tell whether he was speaking or crying.

“Sis… sis, let it go,” Summer managed with a tight smile and low voice. “He’s already had his lesson.”

“Pam.” One sharp slap from Luo Qing sent him—already weak from fatigue—to the floor, leaning against the doorframe.

In Summer's stunned, fearful stare, Luo Qing kicked the red-haired fat man still kneeling under her to the side. She knelt and, using the same motion she had used before, pinched Summer's pretty, pale chin gently. “Brother,” she said softly, “I didn’t hear clearly what you just said. Could you say it again?”

“N-nothing,” Summer whispered, not daring to meet her eyes, and then fell silent.

“Now that's obedient,” Luo Qing laughed and pushed him away. She stood and tapped the chubby man's forehead with the tip of her shoe. In a soft voice she ordered, “Go. Wake your partner and call him here.”

“Ugh…” The red-haired fat man moaned, but did not form a full sentence. He turned over and crawled, half-carrying himself, toward the unconscious yellow-haired boy behind me.

Only when he turned to face me did I finally see his mouth. A small blood-red hole had opened in his lower lip. I couldn’t tell whether it was pierced through, but his mouth was drenched in deep red blood. Even while he whimpered, I seemed to see that Luo Qing had kicked out his lower front tooth; his whole jaw was swollen huge.

At the sight of the red-haired man, something inside me shuddered. For a moment, a nameless terror flashed through me: this gentle, alluring girl with her sweet smile and cruel hands—was she really my girlfriend, Luo Qing?

Not only Summer; even I did not dare to hold her gaze then. Her eyes were near-mad with something feral, and her behavior was beyond strange. I could not bear to imagine what would happen if I ever disobeyed her now. Could it end like this man's body? And yet... I was her boyfriend.

As if in a daze, the chubby fool gave the yellow-haired boy two hard slaps across the face. Before he could even fully wake, he grabbed the boy by the collar and dragged him to Luo Qing.

“Your name… what is his name?” Luo Qing asked, her white, graceful hand lifting to her lips as if she were trying to remember the boy’s name.

“I’m Li Jian,” the yellow-haired boy said, only beginning to wake, bowing slightly when he saw her. “You can just call me Fool, Miss Qing.”

“Such a good name. Well then, this is where we test whether you’re really as dumb as you look…” She smiled, touched her heel to his forehead, and asked, “Who called him here?”

“He… who?” the yellow-haired boy stammered, fear turning his words to gravel.

Thinking he was pretending, Luo Qing leaned forward all at once. Her weight dropped all at once onto the foot pressing against the boy’s forehead, and with one instant of ruthless force, she pinned him flat. “Don’t think I don’t know anything,” she said with a smile. “I’ll give you one more chance.”

The yellow-haired boy cast a terrified glance at the red-haired man beside him, whose blood had continued to drip in thick drops down his fingers and onto the tile.

“It’s me, it’s me,” he blurted. “Please, please, I’m submitting.”

“Speak.”

Luo Qing looked down from above the boy sprawled on the floor, and her tone held a sweetness almost impossible to describe. I knew all too well that beneath that false gentleness hid methods far more frighteningly cruel.

“Brother Tian sent us to do this,” he said, voice shaking. “He said… he said, take this kid to the bathroom and really break him down, maybe crack a few bones, as long as nobody dies.”

“With what trick did you bring him here?”

“With… with your phone, Miss Qing,” he said, lowering his head, not daring to move.

“Very obedient,” Luo Qing smiled. She withdrew her foot and turned to Summer, whose face had gone ashen. “Bro, they said it was you who told him.”

“Nonsense. This is nonsense.” Summer jerked up his head, furious now, and pointed at the yellow-haired boy. “Luo Qing, do you really believe this trashy lie and not me?”

“Bro, don’t rush,” Luo Qing said, looking at Summer as if he were a charging ram. “There will be plenty of time later for our business.” She waved with a faintly weary hand toward the yellow-haired and red-haired men.

“Come with me.” Luo Qiancheng, who had stayed silent all this time, spoke suddenly. His voice was severe, without a trace of softness. He pushed open the door and called the three of them out, leaving only Luo Qing and me in the blood-streaked restroom.

“Don’t forget what you promised me,” he said to Luo Qing before shutting the door.

Now Luo Qing stood by the doorway, and I remained by the sink on the icy tile. Only the two of us were left, and as I stared into her strange, cold eyes, no words came.

In the silence, she walked toward me in her high heels, and her light steps rang a crisp “click” on the tile. I lowered my head and did not dare to meet her eyes, as though a stranger had taken her place before me.

“Husband…” Luo Qing’s voice was soft, yet clear.

I looked up in shock. After a pause I replied, “As long as you’re all right.”

“Hei hei. Did I scare you?” She knelt and ran her pale, delicate hand over my fully swollen cheek, smiling.

I shook my head quickly. I wasn’t afraid of death. I feared no one.

“Actually,” she said quietly, wiping the blood from the corner of my mouth, then hugging my completely drained body as if it weighed nothing, “this is the real me. I am nowhere near as good as you imagined, nowhere near as gentle… Forget me, alright?”

“Impossible.” I used my last strength to hold Luo Qing’s soft body against me. “Whatever you become, you are still my Luo heroine—my favorite person in the world.”

At my words, she seemed to tremble, then slowly settled. Her voice softened. “Husband… this is the last time I’ll call you that. After this, we’ll be people from two different worlds. Live well. Find someone better than me, someone prettier than me. Do you hear me?”

“Don’t go.”

“Have you quit smoking?” Luo Qing asked suddenly, smiling faintly.

“Yes,” I nodded hard.

“Good boy.” In this moment she did not seem like the girl I had known before. Her tone and manner were strangely mature, and beneath that maturity lay so much coldness that I could hardly follow.

“Yang Chen,” she said, touching my forehead with one finger, then helping me stand. “You need to learn how to be mature from now on, all right?”

“I don’t need to be mature,” I said. A terrible instinct warned me that I was about to lose something precious. Fear and panic pressed inside me.

“Do you still have enough money for a cab?” Luo Qing smiled and lightly brushed the dust off my clothes.

I could not answer. This small, ordinary tone only made the decision in her heart clearer to me, and I knew it concerned the future of our love.

“Go home and sleep. When you wake up, you’ll have forgotten everything.”

She looked at me, then lowered her head; her voice carried a strange sorrow.

“Don’t leave,” I begged, clutching Luo Qing’s thin arm. In that moment I had no pride left as a man. I had once said my love for her was humble by nature—needing neither understanding nor praise, natural, yet never easy.

“Time.”

The bathroom door opened again. Luo Qiancheng’s stern voice came from the threshold.

“Let’s go.” Luo Qing looked at me and then, without warning, kissed me hard on the lips. She turned away, waving once, and pulled the door wide.

“Yang Chen, you must find a truly wonderful girlfriend,” she said as she opened the door, then turned back with a mischievous little smile, her voice suddenly choked. “At least someone better than me, and prettier than me. If not, I won’t let you off easy. Husband… we will not meet again.”

Before I could say a single word to hold her, she had already shut the door. It sounded as if she had vanished with it.

I stood staring at the now empty restroom, dazed, helpless.

Why did it have to be like this?

I kept looking at the door, as if Luo Qing were still standing there.

“Luo Qing… you won’t just leave me like this, will you?” I muttered aloud, but my head swirled; it felt like I had just gotten drunk—heavy, exhausted, and dim.

I pushed the door open hard. There was no one outside. Along the corridor I opened one door after another, searching for any trace of her. I had become used to the way she moved in my life, and I truly did not know what I would become if Luo Qing truly walked away.
