Chapter Nineteen: Wang Fugui

Gazing at the military-grade cybernetic being from Dreamforge Entertainment Corporation before him, and the small crater beneath its foot, he reflected silently. This was not his first time hiring corporate security, nor his first interaction with Dreamforge Entertainment, yet never before had they made such a forceful impression.
Was this meant to convey some underlying message, or did it signal a shift in their strategy?
Even the slightest change in a corporation could mean upheaval for individual merchants and small enterprises. Though he had risen to prominence among ordinary people, compared to these colossal entities that had replaced and surpassed the old nation-states, he was still insignificant.
But rather than indulge in wild speculation, communication was a more effective solution.
Knowing that corporate personnel cared little for appearances, he made no adjustments to his own cybernetic face and stepped forward directly, greeting them: “Hello, I am Wang Fugui.”
Mo Wen studied the client before him. Outwardly, his face was stiff, his movements mechanical, his eyes vacant—like a living corpse driven by external forces. Most of his emotions had been stripped away by his cybernetic enhancements. Yet, probing deeper with his awakened psychic sixth sense, Mo Wen could detect a fiery surge of emotion burning within his chest.
He showed no fear despite the man’s sudden descent from above at a speed capable of killing him and did not flinch.
This lack of fear was not ignorance—he understood the danger of that fall—nor was it confidence born of knowledge that he would remain unharmed. Rather, it was the product of arduous training and lived experience, transforming fear into a pure mechanism of alertness, overcome through indomitable willpower that defied biological instinct.
Though his name was plain, this was clearly a man of formidable strength.
“Hello, I am Mo Wen, member of Dreamforge Entertainment Corporation’s 16th Division, Field Operations Team 25.”
A proper name had become almost a luxury. With the dissolution of national concepts, the loss of old culture, and the onslaught of new ideologies, people still named or renamed themselves at will, but those who had lost hope and history, who cared little for names, and who pursued higher efficiency and clarity, no longer gave themselves or others such traditional names.
From this name alone, Wang Fugui judged that Mo Wen was no ordinary person.
So, what made him special?
Countless thoughts flowed through his mind, breaking one question into many. Judging by Mo Wen’s cybernetic enhancements, his speech, and his demeanor, Wang Fugui answered each in turn.

The answer was: Knowing too much was not always beneficial.
Wang Fugui nodded. “I understand, Mr. Mo Wen. Before we begin, a reminder: damaging public property incurs a fine.”
“Since this contested city still lacks a responsible corporation, if you want to reduce your fine, you can log onto the [Corporation] official website, select the appropriate interface, upload photos of the scene, and turn yourself in.”
Only then did Mo Wen recall he was in a civilized society and immediately paid the fine. “Thank you for the reminder.”
The helicopter descended slowly as three teammates emerged. Ren Sisi still wore a hesitant expression, torn over who should bear the responsibility for the fine.
Meanwhile, Dragon Sword Ninja, noting how casually both the client and Mo Wen acted, promptly checked the [Corporation] website’s financial records and confirmed Mo Wen had paid.
He chose not to mention this, preferring to watch the young girl’s internal struggle.
Dragon Sword Ninja stepped forward. After Mo Wen naturally stepped aside, he assumed the commanding presence of a team leader and smiled at the client. “Hello, I am Dragon Sword Ninja, leader of Team 16-25. Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Wang Fugui.”
“I heard stories about you when I was young. A renowned grassroots entrepreneur who helped rebuild after the war, promoted local self-governance and development, created numerous jobs, and spurred regional progress.”
“I also saw your recent ‘Gold Miner Competition.’”
Wang Fugui interrupted, “That’s all in the past. I’ve already mentioned in the briefing what I intend to do next. This kind of flattery isn’t necessary.”
Dragon Sword Ninja shrugged. “Still, I don’t understand why you want to do this.”
Wang Fugui replied coldly, “Because I want to. It’s that simple. You can see it as me giving up completely, or as a pledge of allegiance to the corporation. Your only task is to carry out your mission, isn’t it?”
“No,” Dragon Sword Ninja shook his head. “Perhaps in the past you asked the corporation to do simpler things and misunderstood us. But in reality, we’re always allowed to handle special cases and are taught to act on our own judgment, not blindly follow orders.”
“Your actions have no issues so far, as far as the supervisors and I can tell, but that doesn’t mean you can keep secrets until the end.”
Unmoved, Wang Fugui said, “Then carry out the mission.”
“You’re here, so my part begins.”

A manned drone approached Wang Fugui. He lightly stepped aboard, nodded farewell to Mo Wen and the others, then immediately flew toward his “battlefield.”
Dragon Sword Ninja shook his head. “Well, couldn’t get much out of him, so let it be. They won’t cause us any serious trouble anyway.”
“Mo Wen, be careful not to act prematurely. Try to restrain rather than kill. The rest of you are free to move. I trust you.”
With that, Dragon Sword Ninja wrapped his cloak around himself and vanished.
Phantom seemed to dissolve into the environment, disappearing without a trace.
Ren Sisi looked at Mo Wen, hesitating to speak. After he began moving, she resignedly returned to the helicopter and connected to the local intercity network through onboard equipment to monitor the entire scene.
As for Mo Wen, he leapt, soaring 1.2 kilometers to land steadily atop the event venue, quickly finding a vantage point.
The venue resembled a nest-shaped structure, akin to a super-large stadium capable of holding tens of thousands, though the central structure differed somewhat.
Tens of thousands of residents from the outer ring sat in the stands, murmuring among themselves.
Thanks to the enhanced auditory and cognitive capabilities of his cybernetic body, Mo Wen instantly gathered every sound in the venue. Combining this with information he found online about the event, he identified key points.
Unlike the city of Sisode, fully controlled by Dreamforge Entertainment, this contested city’s security was relatively poor. At its worst, public murders occurred openly. Later, city self-governing organizations rebuilt various public services, and Wang Fugui initially proposed resolving disputes through sports competitions.
This arena was currently hosting contests of “mining,” “smelting,” and “crafting,” where teams of cybernetic beings wielded their own equipment and ingenious tactics in heated competition. Some had to broadcast outdoors, but the audience was electrified.
A small minority spread ideas such as “We’re no worse than the corporation,” “The corporation seized our resources, which is why we’ve fallen to this state,” and “We must unite to reclaim everything from the [Corporation].”
