Chapter 60 This atmosphere where only I am left out...
Both firefighters and maintenance workers were stationed beneath the Ferris wheel. As each gondola was lowered, they quickly unlocked the doors to rescue the trapped individuals, minimizing their time lingering at the base of the structure.
Ambulances had also arrived long ago, setting up a temporary medical station a safe distance away from the ride.
Staff members maintained order, evacuating the tourists who had previously gathered under the Ferris wheel to a distant area, while clearing a designated emergency lane to allow the injured to be swiftly transported to the medical tent.
He Yue anxiously counted the cabins, finally waiting for the one carrying Fu Linxing.
Seeing a firefighter pull open the cabin door and Tao Zizi emerge carrying Fu Linxing in her arms, He Yue almost broke past the police cordon and rushed over.
The firefighter initially intended to take Fu Linxing from Tao Zizi, but seeing her effortlessly carry the boy past him with an expressionless face, he had no choice but to withdraw his hands and move on to rescue the next batch of trapped people.
Tao Zizi walked toward the safe zone carrying Fu Linxing. Aside from her posture looking somewhat peculiar, she genuinely did not seem to be exerting any effort.
Since Fu Linxing was considerably taller than her, he was currently being carried in a stretched-out, figure-seven posture.
He Yue gripped the caution tape tightly, watching Fu Linxing's legs nearly dragging on the ground and his upper body resting in her young female classmate's arms, momentarily forgetting what she had even intended to say...
Fu Linxing regained consciousness, shook his head, and looked blankly at He Yue opposite him, then shifted his gaze to Tao Zizi's face, which was mostly blocked from view.
Realizing that he was lying in the other person's arms in some bizarre princess-carry pose, he immediately startled and jumped down.
"You woke up pretty fast," Tao Zizi said casually, looking at him.
Just as he frowned and opened his mouth to speak, He Yue lunged forward in front of him.
"Xiaoxing, how are you feeling? Are you hurt anywhere?" She gripped Fu Linxing's shoulders, looking him up and down.
"I'm not hurt anywhere, I think..."
"You scared me to death!" He Yue pulled him tightly into her embrace.
Fu Linxing patted her back and awkwardly pushed her away. "Alright, I'm fine. Let's go first, the firefighter uncle is urging us."
Fortunately, there weren't as many people around now as before. When the Ferris wheel had nearly collapsed, a large crowd had already fled, and those remaining were basically family members stubbornly waiting in place.
Even so, this scene had still been witnessed by the female classmate standing nearby, causing Fu Linxing to blush slightly.
"And you? Are you injured?" He Yue asked Tao Zizi with concern.
"I'm fine, Auntie."
The rescue personnel nearby reminded them once more to leave as quickly as possible. It was uncertain how long the Ferris wheel's current condition could be maintained, and it might collapse at any moment.
Thus, He Yue abandoned any hesitation, took Fu Linxing and Tao Zizi by the hand, and led them away.
After walking a few steps, He Yue looked at her son in puzzlement. "Why did you faint just now?"
Fu Linxing stared suspiciously at Tao Zizi, who met his gaze with a completely untroubled expression.
He actually felt a twinge of guilt and muttered vaguely, "I must have... fainted from fright?"
"How is your courage even smaller than a girl's?" He Yue complained, before following up with concern, "Well, as long as you're not hurt... Wait, your head looks bruised right here, did you bump anywhere else? Let's go to the first-aid post first."
Fu Linxing hurriedly waved his hands to say it wasn't necessary. He Yue glanced at the massive crowd of tourists at the medical station who had tripped and injured themselves while fleeing in all directions moments earlier, and dismissed the idea as well.
Compared to them, the trapped people on the Ferris wheel had only suffered minor bumps and scrapes, with no one appearing seriously harmed.
However, after experiencing such a major accident, He Yue decided it would still be best to drive to the hospital for a proper checkup.
It wasn't until everyone from all the cabins had been rescued that Fu Lan arrived fashionably late. He looked thoroughly panicked, his hair disheveled and drenched in sweat.
Seeing him, Fu Linxing stepped forward to greet him. "Dad!"
"How is it, Xiao Fu? Are you hurt anywhere?" Like He Yue, he checked his son carefully from top to bottom.
"I'm fine, I got down safely."
"That's good, that's good..." Fu Lan looked at He Yue. "I'm sorry I'm late. I got into an argument with the ticket collector at the entrance for ages, and they just wouldn't let people through... You won't blame me, will you?"
When He Yue first saw him arrive, her mood had actually been quite pleasant.
Although he was late and hadn't been of any help, at least he actually showed up this time, failing to completely shirk his responsibilities as a father.
Yet hearing his final sentence, she felt an inexplicable wave of awkwardness in her heart, and her expression stiffened slightly.
"If you hadn't said that last part, your performance would have been considered passing..."
Fu Lan's face stiffened as well, and he awkwardly averted his gaze.
Then, his eyes fell upon the accompanying Tao Zizi, and his heart inevitably sank a fraction.
Of course he knew this was the magical girl who had intervened earlier, and he also knew that Fu Linxing had been unconscious at the time. Details of the scene could not escape his perception, and he could roughly guess the cause and effect.
He hadn't expected his son to become entangled with a magical girl.
No, he should say he hadn't expected his son to become entangled with *another* magical girl...
Furthermore, aside from a very few individuals, she was the first person in years to witness his true abilities. Although she might not yet know whose ability it belonged to, nor understand its precise nature...
The vast majority of opponents never required him to unleash gravity magic of this magnitude, but today had been a last resort.
While Fu Lan wasn't about to treat her as an enemy because of this, he still maintained a certain distance from the young girl before him.
Without batting an eye, he feigned a look of puzzlement. "And this is?"
"Oh, she's my classmate, Tao Zizi. We happened to run into each other today and were hanging out, but we never expected to run into an accident like this," Fu Linxing glanced at Tao Zizi and took the initiative to introduce her. "She helped out a lot when the incident happened."
"Hello, Uncle," Tao Zizi greeted.
"Your son got so scared he fainted, and she had to carry him down," He Yue added with a subtle expression.
Fu Lan was momentarily stunned. "Ah, well then... Thank you very much, Xiao Tao."
"You're welcome," she replied simply, with no discernible emotion on her face.
Fu Lan couldn't help thinking to himself: *This child hides herself deeply.*
"To be safe, I plan to take them both to the hospital for a checkup to see if there are any contusions or concussions. Especially since Xiaoxing actually passed out," He Yue said.
Fu Lan nodded. "That's necessary. It's best to choose a hospital further away from here; since everyone is thinking of getting checked out, the nearby ones will probably have long queues."
After a brief pause, he added another sentence: "Let's all go together, I'll search for the navigation." With that, he took out his phone.
He Yue silently agreed.
Although Fu Linxing wanted to protest their making a mountain out of a molehill, upon second thought, he accepted it with resignation, nodding slowly like a wise old man.
Opportunities like this, where two people could simultaneously show concern for him, were ones they should be allowed to properly embrace.
Having survived an accident, the crowd inside the park was somewhat chaotic. Along the way, people frequently and heatedly discussed the earlier electrical sparks, the bizarrely restored Ferris wheel, and the steel beams that had assembled themselves.
"It was magic, right? That definitely had to be magic, right?" they whispered excitedly, though none of them knew who the caster actually was.
Listening to those discussions, Fu Linxing always felt he had missed out on something extraordinarily remarkable. However, the three people beside him all walked with hurried steps; no one brought up the topic with him, as if going to the hospital was of the utmost importance and could not be delayed by other trivial matters.
Guided by the staff, they left the amusement park and walked toward the parking lot across the street.
Fortunately, the entrance and exit weren't in the same location, Fu Lan thought with a sense of relief.
Before getting into He Yue's car, Fu Lan unexpectedly discovered that Shi Ningyu was still waiting there, standing in the distance beside her large vehicle and locking eyes with him.
She looked at Fu Lan and his surrounding family, revealed a comforted smile, gave him a slight nod, and turned to open her own car door.
Fu Lan climbed into the driver's seat as well, glanced at He Yue—who was finally relaxing her tense nerves and resting her eyes—and started the engine.
Before long, he delivered the carload of people to the hospital, told He Yue to look after the two children, and went off to handle the registration and queueing.
While waiting, Fu Linxing always felt the atmosphere possessed an indescribable strangeness.
His dad, his mom, and Tao Zizi sitting beside them all felt somewhat odd, though he couldn't quite pinpoint where the strangeness lay.
Was it because everyone was staying silent?
His mom and dad had just gotten divorced not long ago, so running into each other again like this was admittedly a bit awkward...
Even though Tao Zizi had spoken to him a lot today, she was usually in a detached, silent state most of the time, much like she was right now. Perhaps having a classmate's parent around made her more reserved... right?
Oh right, he finally realized where the problem was.
Why was nobody talking about the Ferris wheel?
Logically speaking, having just survived such a massive accident by the skin of their teeth, they should have had endless things to talk about. Why was everyone acting as if they were avoiding something?
In the end, hadn't the Ferris wheel almost collapsed? His memory was a bit hazy; it seemed like Tao Zizi had done something to him, and her face had been very close back then...
Fu Linxing's gaze swept stealthily back and forth among the three of them until He Yue patted him on the shoulder, startling him badly.
"Did you forget to take your bag?" she asked.
"Oh yeah!" Fu Linxing only then remembered. "My phone is still in my bag! I left it in the storage locker at the Ferris wheel."
He Yue looked at Fu Lan. "Could you trouble yourself to drive back and help pick up the bag? I'll handle things here."
Fu Lan scratched his head, a headache coming on. He had just gotten into a conflict with the staff at the amusement park entrance; going back now would only compound the trouble...
Yet he couldn't refuse, because as he scratched his head, a sudden realization struck him: he had an unavoidable reason to return as well.
He had dropped his hat there.
