Chapter 11: Two Tulips
Ning Rongrong pouted and said, "Dad, you're lying again. Both of us have the Seven Treasure Glazed Pagoda as our martial soul. How could you not feel it? You just want to give it to me!"
Ning Fengzhi was momentarily stunned; he hadn’t expected his daughter to be so perceptive.
“Rongrong has really grown up,” he said with a sigh. “The reason I said I don’t like it is because it suits you better.”
Ning Rongrong looked at him with puzzled eyes.
Ning Fengzhi continued, “Your talent is the highest the sect has seen in nearly a hundred years—far surpassing mine. Only by absorbing it can you fully harness its medicinal effect and shoulder the future of the sect.”
Every word came straight from his heart.
Wang Dong recalled that in the sect of Haotian a million years later, he was also supposed to bear its future.
At that moment, the herb in midair, shaped like a tulip, seemed to sigh softly and emitted a golden light that shot directly toward the pile of herbs below. The fragrance in the air grew more intense.
Everyone watched this sudden change in silence, afraid to disturb the moment.
After a while, there was a stir in the pile of herbs.
Wang Dong reached out and parted the herbs covering the bottom. There, standing proudly on the table, was a herb identical in appearance and radiance to the one floating above.
“How can the same species have two personalities?” he murmured.
At that moment, both herbs moved toward Ning Fengzhi and Ning Rongrong, not dissipating into mist as before, but transforming into ethereal shadows that merged with them respectively.
Wang Dong exhaled gently, relieved. This was much better.
After storing the herbs again, the four of them stepped outside the tent and casually found a spot in the forest rich in spiritual energy to meditate and absorb the medicinal effects.
Xue Qinghe’s hidden guards stood watch around them, eliminating any possible danger.
As darkness gradually faded, golden light suffused each of them.
Wang Dong carefully sensed the flow of his soul power. He had expected his body might not withstand the effects of two herbs and had prepared to exert himself fully.
Unexpectedly, the two conflicting herbal effects manifested very gently within him.
Once the two forces occupied half of his body each, the peaceful scene vanished, replaced by a fierce struggle for dominance, violently clashing inside him.
At that moment, from the soul guidance device on his chest, a pure white, crystal-clear herb emerged, resembling a white lotus root. It turned into a wisp of white mist that swiftly entered his body.
The previously turbulent two forces softened at once and began to intertwine.
Wang Dong breathed out gently. He could feel his soul power greatly enhanced, and his physical constitution was unlike before.
However...
With three herbs absorbed, the effects should not have been limited to this.
The specific benefits would only become clear with time.
When he opened his eyes, he saw the other three still immersed in absorbing the medicinal power.
No need to hesitate further.
Wang Dong took out a second soul ring from his spiritual sea and began absorbing its power.
Meanwhile, Xue Qinghe felt his soul power flowing more freely within his body as he absorbed the herb's effects.
He quickly realized he couldn’t continue in his current form.
While the others were unaware, he rose swiftly and flew off into the distance.
“Serpent Spear, Porcupine Fish, protect me,” Xue Qinghe said, reverting to his female form. Under the cover of the two titled Douluos, she began absorbing the medicinal effects completely unhindered.
The medicinal force was extremely domineering, rampaging inside her, breaking through many previously blocked points.
At the same time, a shadow of Xue Qinghe appeared behind her, continuously striking her body, strengthening her physical resilience.
In contrast, Ning Rongrong and Ning Fengzhi fared much better, showing no signs of pain.
Time passed slowly. The eastern sky gradually lightened, from deep black to a faint pale blue.
The silence of the Sunset Forest was broken by the morning light.
Birdsong echoed through the branches, awakening the long-slumbering creatures.
Wang Dong was the first to awaken. Soul rings inherently grant the abilities one most needs without much effort.
After absorbing the second soul ring, his soul power reached level 29.
Perhaps due to the herbs, he felt his soul power could still rise, but the rapid increase would draw unwanted attention, so he refrained from absorbing the third soul ring for now.
Upon waking, he noticed Xue Qinghe was nowhere nearby. His suspicion from the previous day grew stronger: she must have returned to her female form to absorb the medicinal effects better.
The second to wake was Ning Rongrong.
The light of the Seven Treasure Glazed Pagoda shone brighter than the morning sun.
Ning Rongrong raised the Seven Treasure Glazed Pagoda with her right hand and happily ran toward Wang Dong.
Wang Dong immediately noticed something different.
“Xiaodong! Xiaodong! My soul power has increased by eight levels. I’m now level 20!”
Judging by her expression, Wang Dong could tell she hadn’t yet noticed the change in her martial soul.
Ning Rongrong bounced over and hugged Wang Dong tightly.
“Thank you, Xiaodong! I can feel not only my soul power increasing, but also the purity of my martial soul!”
Wang Dong patted her shoulder, signaling her to let go, then looked at the pagoda in her hand. “Is that all?”
Ning Rongrong instinctively replied, “Yes...” but her voice trailed off as she caught sight of her martial soul.
Her pupils dilated, her mouth opened and closed repeatedly, but she couldn’t speak.
“Xiaodong, this...” she stammered.
Seeing her excitement, Wang Dong confidently said, “It’s the Nine Treasure Glazed Pagoda!”
So this was why Ning Rongrong possessed the Nine Treasure Glazed Pagoda, while in the sect a million years later, others still only had the Seven Treasure Glazed Pagoda.
If that was the case, had the original seven from Shrek Academy all consumed this herb?
Tears welled in Ning Rongrong’s eyes as she counted it over and over, unable to believe it.
Her large movements attracted the attention of the now-awake Ning Fengzhi.
“Rongrong, what’s wrong? Did something go wrong with the herb absorption? Are you feeling unwell?” he asked, approaching her.
But upon seeing the shape of the pagoda in her hand, his eyes reddened.
His hands trembled as he tried to summon his martial soul.
Yet, at that moment, a feeling of retreat arose within him.
Wang Dong encouraged, “Uncle Ning, you can do it too!”
Ning Fengzhi looked at his daughter and finally stopped hesitating.
