Chapter 48: A Satirical Science Popularization
In the early morning, Qian Lin stood by the window and stretched luxuriously, letting the morning breeze brush against his cheek. That comfortable sensation was simply intoxicating.
"Chirpy~" (*^▽^*)
Swablu landed on top of Qian Lin's head instantly. This was her exclusive spot, and no one else could ever steal it.
"Good morning, Swablu." Qian Lin smiled and gently stroked Swablu's head.
Growlithe and Pangoro hadn't returned last night. Growlithe needed to assist the research institute with some Fire-type studies, while Pangoro had been taken away for strength testing due to its sheer power. The institute would certainly take good care of them, so there was no need to worry.
Because of Qian Lin's current special status, the higher-ups had already arranged his new accommodation right here inside the research institute during the recent broadcast. His original home would remain unoccupied for the time being, and his other family members had been properly relocated and placed under secure protection, meaning Qian Lin didn't have to worry about anyone's safety.
After washing up, he headed to the cafeteria. There were both familiar and unfamiliar faces all around. It was clear that quite a few people had been added to the research institute over this period, mostly big shots specializing in various fields and all sorts of genius scientists. In short, Qian Lin felt rather out of place mingling among them alone.
Opening his phone to browse Bilibili, the recommended videos were basically all about yesterday's battle, alongside battle footage from half a month ago. Even the previous skirmish at the marketplace had been pushed back to the top, showing a strong momentum where Pokémon practically equated to traffic and views.
However, due to the incident involving Old Pi and that arrogant punk last time, the authorities were now maintaining strict control across all fronts. Videos clearly trying to ride the coattails of the trend couldn't even pass the review process. Currently, aside from a few legitimate content creators, one could barely find any information related to Pokémon.
After tipping a popular science creator known as "Tibetan Fox," Qian Lin closed his phone and took his final bite of food.
He looked at Swablu, who was still feasting happily beside him. "How about I also make some popular science videos? I can turn some knowledge that isn't really suitable to talk about during live streams, or little tips I usually overlook in daily life, into videos and upload them."
Just like the Pokémon types from before—because that belonged to the absolute basics, Qian Lin had subconsciously skipped over it. Now that he thought about it, turning that kind of material into videos didn't seem like a bad idea at all.
"I support your idea." A familiar voice came from behind Qian Lin.
Qian Lin turned his head and just happened to see Supervisor Che walking over with a tray of food. "Supervisor Che."
After greeting Swablu, Supervisor Che put down his bowl and chopsticks, sat next to Qian Lin, and began, "In fact, we've also been trying to edit clips from your live broadcasts, extracting useful knowledge to publish. But much of what you mentioned in the broadcasts was just passing remarks, so there isn't much substantive material we can cut together."
As he spoke, Supervisor Che took a bite of his food. "That's why we also want you to record some fundamental science popularization videos. I came looking for you precisely for this matter."
Qian Lin rubbed his chin. "I was thinking the exact same thing. Things said during a live stream are too scattered; ordinary people might not remember them even if they hear them. Making them into dedicated videos allows people to rewatch them repeatedly."
"That's fantastic." Supervisor Che chuckled softly. "We've already prepared professional camera crews and some... ahem, script-writing personnel. In short, you don't need to worry about anything at all. Just produce the videos according to your own ideas."
Right now, the higher-ups were fully supporting the Pokémon Research Institute—and remember, that meant *fully*. No matter what you need, just say the word: if we have it, we'll give it to you; if we don't, we'll manufacture it for you even if we have to start from scratch.
Trying to stand in the way? Who would dare block the path? Just look at the Dongfeng Express delivery service.
Looking at Supervisor Che's expression that practically screamed, "You just voice your demands, the authorities will cover everything else," Qian Lin would be lying if he said he wasn't moved. Combining the decades across both of his lifetimes, this was the first time anyone had ever spoken to him like that.
It inexplicably felt like the exhilarating rush of using cheat codes.
"Alright," Qian Lin agreed with a smile. "And since I happen to have a few ideas of my own, I can test the waters first."
...
Two days later, on Qian Lin's personal Bilibili account, a video was quietly uploaded.
[Poké-Tutoring 01: Types]
As the video cleared review, countless people clicked on this strangely named video at that very moment, only to see Qian Lin standing in place wearing white researcher attire, with Pangoro standing right beside him.
"Hello everyone, I am Qian Lin. Next, I will introduce Pokémon types to everyone."
"During my first live stream, I mentioned that there are eighteen Pokémon types, which are: Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Electric, Ice, Bug, Flying, Ground, Rock, Fighting, Psychic, Ghost, Poison, Dark, Steel, Dragon, and Fairy."
"Some Pokémon have dual types, while others are single-typed..."
The video progressed in a rather mundane manner. Just when everyone thought the video was going to stay like that, they saw Qian Lin suddenly grab the Pangoro next to him, saying with a grinny smile, "Pangoro is a dual-type Pokémon with the Dark and Fighting types."
With that, Qian Lin patted Pangoro's little belly. "Come on, Pangoro, make a scary face."
Pangoro: "..."
"Eh~ Does it not work?" Qian Lin scratched the back of his head and patted Pangoro's belly again. "Then how about showing me a Fighting-type move? What about Farmer's Three Punches... Oh, those aren't Fighting-type moves. Well then... how about using Close Combat?"
"You have to believe in yourself, Pangoro! After all, you are a rising star in the Fighting-type world!" Qian Lin spoke while continuing to pat Pangoro's belly, his face full of excitement and glee.
On the contrary, Pangoro... her expression was growing increasingly impatient.
Roar—
Probably unable to stand Qian Lin's chatter any longer, Pangoro's face darkened, and veins bulged on her forehead. The next second, a white light erupted from her body, and a pair of fists imbued with formidable power slammed fiercely into the ground. Accompanied by a cry of "Holy crap!" and the sound of something shattering, the video ended right there.
Everyone... was dumbfounded.
Swablu is so cute: Qian... Qian Lin... is still alive, right?
Magikarp without a brain: It must be scripted... probably...
I am Milotic's dog: You two are toxic, aren't you? What kind of weird names did you pick?
You are Feebas's hand: Hey, the one above... the two of us... never mind, I'm going to go change my name right now.
Anyway, leaving aside whether this video was entertaining or not, it certainly left a sufficiently deep impression. For instance, that impatient Pangoro fully demonstrated what a Dark-type was, and that powerful, heavy-hitting attack fully demonstrated what a Fighting-type was.
Back at the research institute, Qian Lin watched this scene with a chuckle and said to the slightly embarrassed Pangoro beside him, "See? I told you there's nothing to worry about. Everyone isn't stupid; they definitely know we used a script."
"Besides, what does it matter? As long as it's fun."
Pangoro scratched her head. That Close Combat strike earlier hadn't actually caused any real damage, and she had held back her strength anyway. The sound of that object shattering was actually edited in later.
Watching Qian Lin's beaming smile, Pangoro simply shrugged.
Fine, as long as you're happy.
Supervisor Che sat on the other side, looking at the video with a peculiar expression. "As expected, I still can't understand young people."
