However, the rogue panda seemed to understand Qian Lin’s predicament. Faced with Qian Lin’s helplessness, it let out a low growl and pointed to the Quanquan Bear beside it.

Qian Lin was stunned once again, disbelief written all over his face. “You want me to command Quanquan Bear to fight alongside you?”

The rogue panda clenched its fist tightly.

Quanquan Bear scratched the back of its head.

Honestly, even without a trainer’s guidance, you’re no match for me. Is this really necessary?

The rogue panda shook its head, eyes resolute.

Fine, if that makes you happy... Quanquan Bear clicked its tongue and slowly stepped forward to stand before Qian Lin.

Without giving Qian Lin time to react, Quanquan Bear spread its arms wide, instantly reaching the peak of its momentum.

Since it was a battle, Quanquan Bear naturally wouldn’t hold back. Facing the rogue panda’s fighting spirit, it let out a long howl, raising its own aura to the highest.

Qian Lin twitched the corner of his mouth, watching the two bears confront each other in the ring, feeling the situation was somewhat absurd.

“Roar!” The rogue panda looked at Qian Lin, its voice filled with battle intent.

The earnestness in that roar made Qian Lin pause, and looking into the rogue panda’s eyes, he seemed to grasp its meaning.

“Alright then, let’s fight!” Qian Lin threw out a drone, restarting the live broadcast!

Before the remaining viewers could even voice their confusion, Qian Lin spoke first. “This is the Pokémon Science Live Broadcast. I am your host, Qian Lin. Next, I will demonstrate the capture of a Pokémon. The target is…”

“Rogue Panda!”

[?????]

[???]

[What is this???]

[What’s going on?]

[Good thing I didn’t leave the broadcast!]

Roar—

White light shimmered around the rogue panda—close combat!

“Quanquan Bear! Play Rough!”

Roar!

Two massive bodies collided, the tremendous force gouging a huge crater in the ground. Both staggered back several steps; with double and quadruple type advantages, it was clear the rogue panda suffered heavier damage.

“Again, Play Rough!”

Quanquan Bear planted its feet firmly and kicked off the ground, charging forward once more like a heavy tank colliding with the rogue panda.

Seeing this, the rogue panda laughed, folding its arms and crossing its hands, a translucent protective shield flickering into view.

[Protect! It’s Protect!]

[Oh no! The rogue panda has learned it; Qian Lin is going to lose!]

[Disaster incoming!]

“Use the battle tactics I taught you against me…” Qian Lin’s eyes gleamed with satisfaction. The rogue panda’s learning ability was impressive—first using Fighting-type moves to counter Normal types, then Protect to keep the opponent close, creating a chance to unleash its signature punches.

“But unfortunately, just not quite enough.” Qian Lin waved his right hand and shouted, “Taunt!”

Quanquan Bear’s forward momentum didn’t stop. Facing the rogue panda’s Protect, it grinned widely. The pink Fairy-type energy dissipated, transforming into dark, sinister energy. Quanquan Bear hooked its right claw’s index finger, and the rogue panda’s protective light abruptly vanished.

The sudden failure of Protect left the rogue panda momentarily stunned, standing frozen with arms crossed.

Qian Lin wouldn’t miss such a perfect opportunity. “Finish her! One last time! Play Rough!”

Quanquan Bear’s mouth curled into a smile. As in their previous clash, a pink glow enveloped it. In the rogue panda’s dazed eyes, a terrifying blow landed. The ensuing storm and dust explosion unleashed such enormous power that even the Swirlix perched atop Qian Lin’s head instinctively flapped its wings, struggling to keep steady.

Holding up a hand in front of him, Qian Lin narrowed his eyes at the battle’s center. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out an empty Poké Ball.

As the storm scattered the dust, the moment the figure was revealed, Qian Lin clenched the Poké Ball tightly and hurled it forcefully. The spinning Poké Ball flew through the air, battling the fierce wind, striking the rogue panda lying half on the ground.

The Poké Ball opened, blue light enveloping the rogue panda, then sucked it in entirely. As the Poké Ball closed, a red light symbolizing the start of capture flashed.

“Beep—”

Quanquan Bear stood with arms crossed.

“Beep—”

The audience watched eagerly.

“Beep—”

Qian Lin smiled.

A burst of steam rose, the light signaling a successful capture. Qian Lin smiled and stepped forward, picking up the Poké Ball on the ground, then raised it high.

“I’ve captured the rogue panda!”

Roar—

Quanquan Bear nodded with a broad smile.

Chirp~

Swirlix flapped its wings joyfully.

[Holy crap! Is this how you catch wild Pokémon?]

[So awesome! So awesome!]

[Now Qian Lin has three Pokémon partners… I’m totally not jealous.]

[That’s the rogue panda! That’s a panda! That’s a national treasure!]

[Whoa, I didn’t even realize until you said it—Qian Lin caught a national treasure?]

[Such a huge rogue panda, Qian Lin can really say he commutes on a national treasure now.]

[So envious…]

Qian Lin opened the Poké Balls, releasing Growlithe and the rogue panda. He took out healing medicine and treated the rogue panda’s wounds. Growlithe looked happily at its new partner, and Swirlix flew from Qian Lin’s head to perch on the rogue panda, gently examining it before nodding seriously.

This mount feels pretty good, though it can’t compare to a trainer.

Qian Lin smiled at the scene, then turned his gaze to Quanquan Bear. “Thank you, Quanquan Bear.”

Howl~ Quanquan Bear waved dismissively; it was originally called by the rogue panda, so it had little to do with Qian Lin.

After saying this, Quanquan Bear didn’t linger. After telling the rogue panda a few words, it turned away with ease, and Pichu jumped up to perch on Quanquan Bear’s shoulder, waving at the trainer and his three Pokémon.

Qian Lin smiled and waved goodbye. Only after Quanquan Bear’s silhouette vanished did he look again at the rogue panda.

By now, the rogue panda’s wounds had mostly healed. Healing medicine really was a marvel of the Pokémon world—no matter how severe the injuries, it could always mend them.

Qian Lin extended his hand to the rogue panda. “Welcome to the team, rogue panda. I will definitely take you and find your child.”

“Roar~” The rogue panda grabbed Qian Lin’s hand, its determined face breaking into a smile for the first time.

“You look much better when you smile,” Qian Lin grinned.

…

Without capturing the rogue panda into a Poké Ball, Qian Lin drove back to town with his three Pokémon. Just like before, the security officers drove ahead and followed behind as escorts, allowing them to travel smoothly all the way back to the Pokémon Research Institute.

Compared to last time, the institute looked noticeably different—there were standing guards, holding… Qian Lin dared not think if there were live rounds inside.

Getting out of the car, the driver remained the foremost figure. His smile stiffened significantly when he saw the rogue panda step out.

That was a two-meter-tall, robust bear. Honestly, seeing it live was a completely different feeling from watching the broadcast. Even though the driver had prepared mentally, facing the rogue panda up close was still a bit overwhelming.

The other researchers were similar, but their curiosity eventually overcame their fear. They accepted the last empty Poké Ball and jade from Qian Lin, then took Swirlix, Growlithe, and the rogue panda for a medical examination.
