Chapter 57 Interlude
Lynn was not kept waiting long for Rachel Van Helsing. Clearly, the temptation of power had ultimately unlocked the deepest door within her heart—the one labeled vengeance. Lynn was well-pleased, for this meant he could proceed with his next phase of the plan.
"Welcome, Miss Van Helsing."
"I want power..."
Rachel did not revert to her human form; she arrived in the underground laboratory maintaining her battle-ready state.
"You came here precisely for that, didn't you?"
The rebellious students exchanged bewildered glances, clearly clueless as to what was happening. It was just a simple brawl, nothing major—so why had it brought out so many cops?
The hectic workload left Miko with no time to dwell on anything else. By the time she was finally able to rest, she collapsed across her desk like a deflated balloon.
Yet Lucifer merely leaned against the railing, gazing out at the undulating sea of trees in the valley below, as if completely unaware of his presence.
"Brother, you go inside first." Aijia raised her head calmly and looked at Aiqi. There was an unprecedented serenity in her eyes, as though she had already mentally prepared herself.
Chiyan let out a bitter laugh. "My mistake, I shall bear the consequences myself. I have failed Jiangxue, and I could never understand you." At that moment, with a thunderous roar, Chiyan was struck by a dragon of fire. Lacking the protection of spiritual arts, he could not withstand the immense pressure. His body swayed as he dropped to one knee, blood gushing wildly from the corners of his mouth.
Master Fu was an old hand and instantly perceived the disadvantage on our eastern flank. Thus, upon the arrival of his men, he ignored the western side, which was closer to them, and charged straight toward the east to help us hold off the Black Hound's reinforcements.
"Why? Why did you lie to me?" Her body wracked with tremors, Shen Zhiya could no longer contain her grief, crying out hysterically at Nan Jinfeng's retreating back.
Proud masters always possess a certain temperament; they do not simply dance to someone else's tune. Take Beichen, for example—just because everyone wanted to learn the origins of the divine ailment weapon from him, was he obliged to tell them?
Lu Junle was amused by her adorable tone. With a smile, she glanced at Shao Yilu, who was sitting in front of Miko. Next to Shao Yilu sat Bei Xiantang, whose face wore a look of blissful shyness, carrying an unmistakable wave of excitement.
The voice-activated lights in the hallway were functional, but our movements were extremely cautious, taking barely a step a second, leaving the entire corridor pitch black.
The way that was phrased made it sound as though Charlotte and Ren Yingying were a couple, while Ren Lei was the protective older brother. Ren Lei immediately furrowed his brow, making the atmosphere even more tense.
To make matters worse, he happened to catch me on a blind date, making me appear so cheap in his eyes.
Sikong Yanfei stood with his hands clasped behind his back in the courtyard. Seeing her emerge with such a graceful posture, she evoked the lingering, hazy allure of the previous night's couch.
Bao Yifan leaned out of the bathtub and pulled Andy into a tight embrace. Both of them felt that this embrace was vastly different from any they had shared in the past.
Xia Qingxiao's gaze grew dim, a strange light flickering in his eyes as he looked at Lu Shihan, his emotions profoundly complicated for a moment. To Lu Shihan, the emperor was by no means a man to whom she could entrust her life, yet she had no alternative whatsoever.
"Xia Qingxiao, why did you have to come back? Why must you linger like an unlaid ghost?" With an icy gaze, she muttered to herself.
Xia Kunrong dragged the still-groaning Xia Weizhi and scurried ignominiously into their house, completely ignoring Lady Yang and Lady Liu being escorted away outside.
Before she could dwell on it further, the man turned around indifferently and glanced at his wristwatch. The faint curve of his lips carried a subtle detachment. Whether due to his overwhelming presence or something else, Xiao Ziting always felt he was worlds apart from her.
However, his current identity was Xiang Benzong. Aside from his dealings with Satan, he had no connections with figures like Kaseff or Duke Samor. The one who truly maintained those associations was Gao Badou.
I shook my head. What kind of compensation would I want? The papers were already signed back in the United States. Based on the stock price of the Lanhua Group, I could now be considered a wealthy person, and I was thoroughly satisfied.
Wen Ruoxing had made thorough preparations for this major operation, which hinged entirely on utilizing a time difference.
Seeing that the danger had passed, Li Haoran plopped down onto the ground, only to leap right back up, clutching his rear end in pain.
Constrained by the circumstances, Jin Kui swallowed his anger. He knew that if he were to simply walk away, not only would he fail to secure Bai Jin as an ally, but if the tribal elders who already opposed this venture were to find out, they would likely lose all confidence in him.
Wanyan Aguda also raised his gaze abruptly, looking out into the distance as if determined to ferret something out from the pitch-black night.
Truth be told, he did feel a certain amount of pressure because he was genuinely aiming for a high ranking. As he had mentioned before, since he wanted to accomplish something during his school days, he naturally had to give it his all.
Yet Lady Hu stubbornly opposed him, constantly tossing out the title of commandery prince—the very designation he despised hearing most—as if she desperately wanted to speak it at every waking moment.
Ye Yuchen decided to spend 1,000 experience points for a spin. If he still failed to draw what he wanted, he would simply have to give up.
Inside the room, candles flickered and a beauty kept company as garments gradually slipped away. Outside, the night breeze brushed past, leaves rustled softly, and a bright moon hung high in the sky.
Minshuo could not fathom where her words were coming from, but they sounded laden with profound resentment and dissatisfaction.
"Alright, everyone, let's listen to the result together. Let's not keep our older brothers waiting. Brother Chen, you have a listen too." Minshuo looked around and said.
"Marshal, General, I have nowhere left to turn, and I sincerely hope you will take me in." Xiang Qian's attitude was exceptionally earnest, though he could not quite gauge what lay behind the scenes.
Yet the outcome wildly exceeded Shen Aoning's expectations. Qin Ruiyin was already lying lazily on the bed at some unknown point, gazing at her with a playful smirk.
A gust of black wind swept through, instantly sucking in the demons present. They were mostly young demons, yet even when facing a powerful Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal, they showed no weakness, hurling curses back defiantly. Though they could not win, they were determined not to lose the verbal sparring.
