Chapter Forty-One: A Beauty Rescues the Hero
Fortunately, Jiang Hu finally managed to calm down. The doctor changed his dressing and, with genuine concern, offered several earnest words of advice.
“I don’t know exactly what happened between you two, but the patient’s condition is very serious right now. He can’t be without you. There’s nothing more important than a human life, so please, don’t agitate him any further.”
Mo Nianian: What the hell is this?
The doctor left Mo Nianian with Jiang Hu and walked out, kindly closing the door behind them.
Jiang Hu stared fixedly at Mo Nianian, his gaze never wavering—as if there was nothing in his eyes but her. He held her waist in a death grip, as though the moment he let go, she would vanish—just like she had before, gone without a trace.
Defeated, Mo Nianian muttered, “Alright, aren’t you tired? I’m not running anywhere. Let me just sit for a while.”
But Jiang Hu was stubborn as ever, tightening his hold even further.
He stared fiercely at Mo Nianian’s slender neck, where two large bandages had been stuck. He didn’t need to look to know what lay beneath them—his own mark left on her.
Only then did Jiang Hu seem to find a trace of satisfaction.
He buried his head in her embrace, arms locked so tightly around her that Mo Nianian felt pain radiate through her body.
This damn mutt—there was simply no reasoning with him!
The most ludicrous part was, Mo Nianian herself didn’t even know what had happened, yet all the doctors and nurses now saw her as some heartless monster who abandoned her husband and child.
They sympathized with Jiang Hu, watching Mo Nianian like hawks; at the slightest sign she might try to leave, a horde of people would surround her, denouncing her irresponsibility.
Swallowing her indignation, Mo Nianian endured their strange looks and cared for Jiang Hu for three days.
Throughout those three days, Jiang Hu didn’t utter a single word—he simply watched her with a dark, brooding gaze. To be honest, Mo Nianian was deeply unsettled.
She had a feeling that if she didn’t leave soon, she might never get the chance again.
Now that the damn mutt had survived the critical period and wasn’t about to die, there was no need for her to keep vigil over him.
Using the mealtime rush as cover, Mo Nianian slipped into the crowd and successfully escaped the hospital.
Freed from that pest, even the air seemed fresher. Ah! What a relief.
“Big sister, you’ve run away again.”
That nightmarish voice haunted her like a shadow.
Mo Nianian’s body went rigid. She slowly turned to see Jiang Hu standing behind her, ghostlike.
“What… what a coincidence,” Mo Nianian forced a smile. “If I said I just came out to buy something, would you believe me?”
She struggled to make her words sound convincing.
“Big sister, I gave you so many chances, but you never cherished any of them.”
Jiang Hu’s voice grew faint as Mo Nianian’s head spun and she lost consciousness once more.
Damn it! Not this again. Will it ever end?
When Mo Nianian came to, she found herself back in that nightmarish place.
This time, she thought she could handle it with calm… but that was a joke.
Ahhh! That bastard had changed her clothes again—this time into an utterly humiliating piece of lingerie.
Damn, damn, damn! Honestly, she might as well murder him—this mutt wasn’t worthy of any sympathy. Her kindness had been wasted on him again and again!
She was truly pitiful. Why had she ever let her bleeding heart bring her back here?
Mo Nianian hugged herself in distress.
Lying on the bed, face numb, she asked, “How many days have I been asleep?”
“Two days.”
“But didn’t I take the antidote? Why did I still get drugged?”
“Um… Host, did you forget the male lead owns a pharmaceutical company? All the drugs are developed by him.”
For him, concocting this kind of thing was child’s play. He could make dozens at the drop of a hat.
Damn!
Mo Nianian was at a loss for words.
This time, Jiang Hu was even stricter about watching her than before.
He remained silent, observing her coldly. Apart from meals, he barely spoke a word to her.
Yet he was even more clingy; if Mo Nianian was out of his sight for more than ten minutes, he’d search the entire house for her.
After one such episode, she was locked up again.
He’d often stare at her legs with a sinister look in his eyes, prompting Mo Nianian to suspect he was contemplating how to break her legs.
If this continued, Jiang Hu wouldn’t be the one to go mad—she would.
She’d almost had enough of him. Maybe she should look for another chance to escape?
Pondering the possibility, she was doused with cold water by her system: “Host, don’t even think about it. You can’t get away. No matter where you go, the male lead will find you.”
Mo Nianian: “Didn’t you promise not to use any supernatural abilities?”
“Jiang Hu conducted a human experiment—he modified both you and himself just a little. No matter where you go, as long as you’re in this world, he’ll always be able to find you.”
The system had read his experimental report—Jiang Hu was, undeniably, a genius.
“I apply for immediate transfer to the next small world.”
“Sorry, Host, you can’t. You’ve already made your choice, and it can’t be changed.”
Mo Nianian: *smiling face*
Great, now there was truly no escape.
She might as well destroy this annoyingly sassy system and then tidy up before taking her own life.
Jiang Hu entered with a cold face, set the food before her, and fed her spoon by spoon without speaking a single word.
Mo Nianian was now absolutely certain there was no way she could escape. Since that was the case, she might as well make the most of the next few decades.
She burped, pushed away his chopsticks, and did her best to put on a kindly smile. “Jiang Hu, I’ve thought carefully about what you said before. Actually, we can still go back to how things were.”
If only she could pretend none of this ever happened—just return the little angel he once was.
She’d failed to cherish the puppy placed before her, and now the puppy had become a mad wolf, ready to bite her at the slightest provocation.
In short, she regretted it deeply.
Jiang Hu, lost in his own world, didn’t hear a word she said. He was staring at the fading bite mark on her neck—the mark he’d left.
It was nearly gone, so he lowered his head and, without hesitation, bit her again.
“Ah! Ow!”
“Are you part dog or something?”
Mo Nianian clutched her neck, hopping mad.
She didn’t need to look to know there’d be another bite mark there now.
Who knew where this mutt had picked up such a bad habit—it was infuriating.
But at this point, Mo Nianian had no way to deal with him. She even had to worry he might suddenly snap and drag her to hell along with him.
Bottling up her anger, she forced herself to speak gently. “Jiang Hu, I miss our home. Let’s go back, all right?”
She never wanted to stay here another minute!
“To be honest, we spent so many years in peace, didn’t we? We got along so well. Why don’t we just return to how things were before?”
