Chapter 138: Make a Move Against Her
The laboratory was right before her eyes. Mo Niannian breathed a sigh of relief—they had returned safely. Now, Jiang Hu would finally believe her, wouldn’t he?
But before Mo Niannian could fully relax, she suddenly fainted.
Jiang Hu seemed to have anticipated this. He reached out to catch her, holding her horizontally as he gently laid her on the bed.
The wound on his wrist had burst open, staining both their sleeves with fresh blood. His expression was impassive, his golden-rimmed glasses gleaming coldly.
Inside the operating room, all the necessary equipment was prepared.
Soon, Niannian would be with him forever, never to be separated again.
He would no longer have to worry about her leaving.
Jiang Hu toyed with the surgical knife, his long, jade-like fingers gripping the cold handle tightly.
Just one swift motion, quick and precise.
Yet, a moment before he struck, hesitation flickered across his face.
Images of their daily interactions played vividly in his mind.
He seemed to see Niannian coquettishly clinging to him, softly calling his name.
At the last second, the blade veered off course.
Unable to bear it, he let out a self-deprecating smile, discarded the knife, and turned away from Mo Niannian.
She slept a deep, heavy sleep for a long time before finally waking.
Memories from before her fainting gradually returned; she recalled everything.
Her complexion darkened.
How could she have been knocked out by Jiang Hu? That was utterly illogical!
Was there something toxic about Jiang Hu’s little world?
Mo Niannian thought, Why did I faint again? The male lead’s golden finger in this world is just too perverse!
No matter what, she was still one of the ancient gods, yet she had been defeated by Jiang Hu multiple times.
If this got out, would she even have any dignity left?
Taking a deep breath, she braced herself.
The system shrank back and explained, “The male lead’s hypnosis has always been a bug in this little world, which is why it’s so chaotic. But this time, the host fainted not because of hypnosis.”
Mo Niannian slowly typed a question mark.
“The male lead drugged you. You were trapped the moment you stepped inside.”
Mo Niannian was speechless—really.
She couldn’t help but complain, “Am I really this weak? I can’t even resist an ordinary drug?”
Though this body wasn’t originally hers, her soul had inhabited it for quite some time, subtly transforming it. There was no way she should succumb so easily.
She truly had disgraced her divine reputation. If this leaked out, countless gods would laugh themselves silly.
The system cautiously chimed in, “Host, you forgot—your soul was damaged in the last little world.”
“When did I—” Mo Niannian barely finished before realizing.
Goodness, she almost forgot about that.
In the previous world, fearing she couldn’t restrain her troublesome claws, she sealed off all her divine powers before entering the little world.
But Jiang Hu was severely injured trying to save her.
Unable to watch him die, she used her soul’s power to save Jiang Hu.
“The damage to your soul is serious. Your current body is similar to that of an ordinary person,” the system said softly.
It felt sorry for its host at home. If the soul hadn’t been damaged, she wouldn’t be so constrained by Jiang Hu now.
Truly, her host’s situation was pitiful.
Mo Niannian didn’t feel much; she couldn’t just watch Jiang Hu perish before her eyes.
She blamed this broken body; it was utterly unreliable.
She slowly struggled to stand, her limbs weak and soft.
Jiang Hu was nowhere to be seen.
After such an ordeal, she felt like she had regressed to square one, and Jiang Hu’s hostility would be even harder to reduce now.
The thought gave her a headache.
Approaching the door, she hadn’t even touched it when an alarm blared sharply, piercing the silence as if announcing her presence to the entire laboratory.
Soon, Jiang Hu appeared at the entrance, expressionless as he stepped inside.
His dark eyes fixed intently on Mo Niannian, silent.
She awkwardly touched her nose. “Jiang Hu, you sure came quickly.”
No response. The silence made her even more embarrassed.
Her gaze drifted to his wrist—the wound was more gruesome after a full night.
The abrasions from the rope made the injury jagged and terrifying.
Jiang Hu hadn’t treated it at all, letting it fester unchecked.
Whether out of indifference or intent, she couldn’t tell.
A dull pressure and irritation grew in her chest.
“You really are...” she murmured, grasping his hand gingerly, frowning tightly at his injury.
“I’ll get you some medicine,” she said, turning to leave the room.
Jiang Hu was the type who wouldn’t care unless prompted; otherwise, he might just let the wound be.
Mo Niannian felt helpless and frustrated.
Suddenly, Jiang Hu caught her hand.
His gaze locked onto hers. “Does it bother you, Niannian?”
She rolled her eyes. “Let go of me first.”
Jiang Hu stared seriously for a moment, then withdrew his gaze. “I’m sorry, but you’re not going anywhere.”
Mo Niannian: ???
What the hell?
Jiang Hu’s face was calm as he explained, “The entire room is electrified. The moment you approach, the current activates automatically.”
Her eyes flickered. “So you’re planning to imprison me?”
Jiang Hu didn’t answer, changing the subject instead. “Niannian, rest well.”
With that, he left, closing the door behind him in full view of Mo Niannian.
She refused to believe it. Approaching the lab door, she tentatively reached out.
“Host!” the system tried to warn, but before it could finish, Mo Niannian was shocked by an electric jolt.
Just one shock rendered half her body numb.
Mo Niannian was speechless.
Goodness, really.
Now he’d resorted to outright imprisonment?
Should she be grateful Jiang Hu hadn’t resorted to tying her up yet?
She had even thought she didn’t quite match Jiang Hu and wanted to make amends.
But with things like this, what kind of amends were possible?
Jiang Hu, you wretched man!
She circled the room, discovering that not only the door but the entire wall was electrified.
The power switch was in Jiang Hu’s possession.
She couldn’t even get close to the door, let alone escape.
He had completely cut off all chances of her leaving.
Mo Niannian gave up. Fine, she’d sleep it off. She was too angry to play any mind games with this treacherous male lead.
Jiang Hu stood behind the surveillance monitor, watching her for a long time.
His eyes were deep and unreadable; no one could tell what he was thinking.
This time, Mo Niannian woke up from hunger.
She looked around, realizing after several seconds that Jiang Hu had truly imprisoned her.
They were completely estranged now.
The dog male lead wouldn’t listen to her explanations and had abandoned her here.
For a moment, Mo Niannian almost wanted to give up on the mission altogether and let Jiang Hu go to hell.
But reason soon returned; no matter how unwilling she was, she had to continue the mission.
She shouted at the monitor, “Jiang Hu, I’m hungry.”
Not long after, Jiang Hu entered with food.
He silently placed it beside her without a word and immediately turned to leave.
Mo Niannian stopped him. “Jiang Hu, what exactly do you want? I told you I wouldn’t leave you. Didn’t I come back?”
“If I hadn’t come, Niannian would’ve gone with that man long ago, wouldn’t she?” His voice was low, thick with resentment—resentment toward Mo Ran.
If only that man would disappear completely and never disturb him and Niannian again.
Mo Niannian couldn’t understand Jiang Hu’s logic. He was so insecure, as if he was certain deep down that everyone would leave him.
