“Skills are functioning normally. Skill power is normal. Health and mana recovery rates are normal.”

“Backpack items can be used normally.”

“Pets can be used.”

“Equipment effects are normal.”

Those were the conditions of all four of them after entering the dungeon. Everything was within the normal range.

“Except… this is Earth!? And our clothes… I’ve missed them so much!”

Xiong You opened his eyes, his face filled with astonishment.

The familiar buildings, the nimble cars streaming endlessly along the streets, the lively crowds bustling to and fro, the enormous screens covering the sides of the buildings—and the place where the four of them now stood.

A pedestrian overpass above the road!

“This is the setting of the Fantasy Dungeon,” Zhao Nan said with a nod. Judging by the environment, this world most closely resembled Earth before the Great Catastrophe.

“A countdown has appeared for my mission… four hundred days!” Xiong You frowned. “That long?”

“The ratio between time in the Fantasy Dungeon and time in the outside world is one year to one day,” Zhao Nan mused. “Even if we wait out all four hundred days, only a little more than one day will have passed outside.”

“I see…”

The young couple marveled at everything around them as they leaned against the railing of the overpass and gazed down the long avenue, their faces alight with excitement. Xiao Nan murmured, “If this were a real world…”

“All right, enough with the pointless sighing,” Zhao Nan said helplessly. “This dungeon has a time limit. If you grow too attached to this world, then once the time runs out, you’ll only be making yourselves miserable.”

“Then… how are we supposed to complete the mission?” Fina asked with a frown.

“We’ll figure out the circumstances of this world first.”

Zhao Nan pointed toward a newsstand on the street.

“Over there.”

In 2012, an invasion by an unknown object from another dimension began the First Nova Impact. Pandora technology was born, and women began to gain greater social status. That same year, the Chevalier military organization was established, and Genetics Academies began to be built around the world.

In 2037, the Fifth Nova Impact occurred. Five Impacts had taken place over the preceding twenty-five years, an average of one every five years.

In 2052, the Seventh Nova Impact occurred. Humanity suffered enormous losses, and calls to accelerate the release of Pandora technology grew increasingly louder.

In front of the newsstand, the four of them gathered together and examined the old newspapers one by one.

“It’s 2060… and the Eighth Nova Impact hasn’t happened yet.”

Xiong You frowned. “I know where this is!”

“New Genetix City, Japan.”

Zhao Nan pointed at a certain spot on the newspaper in his hand and gave him an amused look. “Anyone could figure that out.”

“No, no. I mean, I know the world this dungeon is set in… I’ve seen it before…”

Xiong You suddenly glanced at Xiao Nan beside him and lowered his voice.

“I think I know the general plot.”

“Oh?”

Zhao Nan narrowed his eyes, looking slightly pleased.

“Let’s find somewhere else and talk.”

The four of them quietly left. Behind them, the owner of the newsstand muttered angrily, “Looking without buying anything. Damn it…”

As they walked, Xiao Nan and Fina followed behind arm in arm, gazing around with curiosity at all the novel things this world had to offer. Up ahead, Xiong You walked shoulder to shoulder with Zhao Nan, apparently discussing something in a low voice.

“Brother Nan… you really haven’t watched that Valkyrie show?”

Zhao Nan frowned. “Before the Great Catastrophe, I only watched a few mainstream shonen series. I wasn’t very familiar with anything else.”

“What a shame!”

Xiong You chuckled under his breath. “It’s a fanservice-heavy series… but whatever you do, don’t tell Xiao Nan.”

“Tell me what you know first,” Zhao Nan said, shaking his head.

“Well, when I first saw the name of the person who was supposed to kill that guy, I thought it looked damn familiar. Now I think I know who he is!”

Xiong You gritted his teeth, his face full of indignation.

“Such resentment. So much resentment… That blond bastard has to die!”

He seemed to have become possessed… probably.

“But… if it really is that detestable blond, killing him will be extremely difficult.”

Xiong You suddenly sighed.

“We’re in Japan now, while that guy should be in Britain…”

“With Bewitchment, obtaining tickets to Britain won’t be difficult,” Zhao Nan said indifferently.

Xiong You shook his head.

“Louis is the heir to the Bridget family, which possesses absolute influence throughout the world. The group behind him provides massive funding for the Pandora Project. How could someone so important not have powerful guards around him?”

“Are the Pandoras… really that strong?”

“I’m not sure…”

Xiong You clenched his fists.

“We aren’t ordinary people ourselves, either. But we haven’t fought them before, so there’s no way to know. In my estimation, dealing with an ordinary Pandora shouldn’t be a problem. But compared with the truly powerful Pandoras of this world, we’re probably far, far behind.”

Xiong You then explained the concepts of Stigmata, the Ereinbar Set, Limiters, and Novas one by one.

“The Freezing Field can nullify attacks and restrict a person’s movements?” Zhao Nan asked with a frown.

“Exactly. Only a Freezing Field can break through another Freezing Field.”

Zhao Nan frowned.

“If that’s the case, then we need a Limiter—and even more, we need the assistance of a Pandora… perhaps.”

“It isn’t that simple. The Bridget family holds terrifying authority within Chevalier. Since Genetics Academy operates under Chevalier, I doubt any of the Pandoras it produces would be willing to help us. The mission lasts four hundred days. No wonder the difficulty is so high.”

Zhao Nan shook his head and lowered his voice.

“In any event, our first priority is to obtain enough resources to survive and operate in this world.”

With that, he turned around, only to find that Fina and Xiao Nan were already far behind. The two women were standing in front of the window of a shop on the street, animatedly discussing what they saw inside.

It was a ready-made clothing store.

“Oh no! Xiao Nan’s a shopaholic!”

Xiong You grimaced.

“Looks like all that shopping desire suppressed by the Great Catastrophe has exploded here!”

Zhao Nan chuckled softly. There was still more than a year before the dungeon ended, so he might as well let the two of them enjoy the ordinary daily life of women for a while.

“Xiao You, go stall them for a bit.”

“Where are you going?”

“To get some money.”

With that, Zhao Nan crossed the road and began searching for prey on the opposite sidewalk. This might be a real world, but he felt no sense of belonging to it. Naturally, he felt no guilt either.

Just then, a portly middle-aged man swayed along the street. He held a telephone in one hand, while a gaudy gold chain hung carelessly around his thick, clumsy neck. Suddenly, the man’s gaze became hazy.

That one…

Zhao Nan chuckled under his breath. With a slight flick of his finger, a faint gray orb shot into the man’s forehead at lightning speed. Zhao Nan then slipped into a nearby alley, and the middle-aged man followed close behind.

A short while later, the man staggered out of the alley in a daze, while Zhao Nan counted the banknotes in his hand. He had no idea what their purchasing power was like here. Perhaps he should find another target, just in case.

“I saw everything, you know!”

Suddenly, a clear voice rang out from within the alley.

Zhao Nan opened his eyes and looked over. At the entrance, where sunlight poured in, a young girl stood holding a loaf of bread in both hands. Her expression was blank as she stared at him.

“You’re using drugs, aren’t you?” she said. “That kind of behavior is against the law.”

To be continued…
